(Y/n) slowly stirred awake, the warmth of the bed wrapping around her like a comforting embrace. Her hand felt something firm yet gentle. When she glanced down, she realized Kuroo was holding it. His peaceful, steady breathing and the soft rise and fall of his chest made her heart flutter.

"Kuroo..." (Y/n) whispered softly, not wanting to disturb him, but her gaze lingered on him as he slept next to her. Her fingers gently brushed through his hair, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. He looked so relaxed, his usual confident demeanor replaced by vulnerability in his sleep.

Suddenly, his eyes fluttered open, his gaze meeting hers.

"(Y/n)?" His voice was hoarse with sleep, and his eyes held the faintest concern.

"Did I wake you up? I'm sorry," she muttered, pulling her hand away instinctively. Her cheeks were flushed, and she quickly looked away, not wanting him to see the blush creeping across her face.

"Are you feeling better?" Kuroo asked, still studying her carefully, his tone softer than usual.

"A little bit better now," (Y/n) responded, though she couldn't meet his eyes. "I'm fine, really." But her voice lacked conviction, and Kuroo noticed.

He raised a brow, unconvinced. "You're sure? Your face is red."

Before she could respond, he leaned in, pressing his forehead gently against hers. Her eyes went wide as the proximity caught her off guard.

"He's too close! Our lips are almost touching!"

"Looks like your fever's gone," he murmured, pulling away with a smirk. His lips twitched, but there was something endearing about it.

Her heart raced. "Your face is red, too!" (Y/n) snapped, lightly pushing him away. She couldn't handle this closeness.

"Sorry, sorry," he said, laughing softly. Their shared laughter hung in the air, but the moment of ease quickly faded into silence, leaving them both a little more aware of the tension between them.

Kuroo sat down beside her on the bed, his expression softening. "Do you want to talk?"

( Y/n) hesitated for a moment, her emotions still raw from everything. But she nodded slowly. "Actually, I..."

Before she could finish her thought, the door burst open. Karasuno's boys rushed into the room, their loud voices immediately filling the space.

"(Y/n)-san! Are you okay?!" Suga exclaimed, his eyes wide with worry. The concern on his face was genuine.

"I'm fine now, don't worry," she reassured them, forcing a smile as best as she could. But the weight of their worry made her heart ache.

"I was so worried!" Suga wiped a stray tear from his cheek, his voice cracking slightly. (Y/n) felt a pang in her chest seeing his emotion.

"I was really surprised when Kuroo rushed to get you to the infirmary. He was more worried than any of us," Daichi added, smiling with a soft chuckle, though there was clear respect in his voice for Kuroo's protective actions.

( Y/n) turned to look at Kuroo, who was now blushing deeply. "He even called you Pumpkin," Noya grinned, clearly teasing.

"Pumpkin?" (Y/n) repeated, blinking in surprise.

"Yeah, I didn't think you two were that close," Tanaka added, his tone lighthearted, but it made (Y/n)'s heart skip a beat.

She glanced back at Kuroo, whose blush deepened at the teasing. "He's my neighbor next door," (Y/n) laughed softly, trying to downplay the sudden weight of the situation, though she couldn't ignore the fluttering feeling in her chest.

"It looks like you're feeling better, (Y/n)-san. You should rest, though. Our next practice is about to start," Suga said, sounding both relieved and understanding.

"Thanks, but I feel fine now," she smiled at them, though a sadness lingered in her heart. "I'm sorry I can't practice with you guys."

"It's fine," Tanaka grinned. "You've got me already." He winked. She gave a small nod in acknowledgment.

"Rest up, (Y/n)-san. See you later," Suga said before the group of boys exited the room, leaving her and Kuroo alone.

Kuroo stood up. "You should get some rest, too," he said, glancing at her with a tender expression. "I'll go now, but I'll see you after my practice."

He leaned down, brushing a kiss across her forehead. The simple act left her frozen for a moment, her hand instinctively going to her forehead afterward.

"He kissed my forehead..." The words echoed in her mind, and she gently touched the spot, her heart racing again. She could barely process what just happened.

After a brief moment, the door opened again, and Tsukki walked in, his usual aloofness in place. "Hey," he greeted her casually as he sat beside her.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, his gaze sharp but sincere.

"Better now, thanks for asking," (Y/n) replied, giving him a warm smile that reached her eyes. She was grateful for Tsukki's concern, even if it was wrapped in his typical indifferent demeanor.

"I saw Kuroo just walk out. Did you talk to him about it?" Tsukki asked, his voice softening slightly.

"Not yet..." (Y/n) lowered her gaze, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of the blanket. "I'm not sure what to say yet."

"You should talk to him soon," Tsukki said with a sigh, ruffling her hair in a way that was meant to be comforting. "You don't want to leave things unsaid."

( Y/n) smiled at him, feeling a wave of gratitude. "Thanks, Tsukki. I'll talk to him."

"My practice is about to start, so you should rest up," Tsukki added. "See you later."

"See you later," (Y/n) waved as he left the room, and she allowed herself to relax for a moment before the weight of the conversation she knew she needed to have with Kuroo settled in.

(Y/n) awoke from a nap, her body feeling refreshed. "I'm feeling better now. I should take a walk," she said to herself. She slowly stood up, stretching the tension out of her muscles, and walked outside, heading to the school's backyard.

As she walked through the quiet area, she froze. She saw Kuroo standing with a girl. (Y/n) couldn't make out what they were saying, but when she overheard the girl confess, her heart shattered into pieces.

"Kuroo-senpai, I like you! Please go out with me!" The girl's voice was hopeful, but it felt like a cold blade piercing through (Y/n)'s chest.

No...

Before she could process the feelings swelling inside her, (Y/n) stepped on a stick, causing it to snap loudly underfoot.

"Who's there?" Kuroo's voice immediately called out, sharp with attention.

"Shit," (Y/n) whispered, her eyes stinging with unshed tears. She turned and ran away, the sting of betrayal and confusion threatening to break her.

"Pumpkin!" Kuroo shouted her name, but she didn't look back. The tears she'd been holding back finally fell freely as she ran, her heart aching with each step.
