1 week later
"MOM, hurry up!" Tetsuya whined as (Y/n) continued to apply sunscreen to his face, making sure he was fully protected from the sun.
"You need to wear sunscreen, honey," she said with a soft smile, gently rubbing more lotion onto his skin. "Now go, but be careful!" she added, ruffling his hair. Without hesitation, Tetsuya jumped into the water, excitement bubbling in his chest.
"We're going to the water park, you coming?" Kuroo asked, holding Katsumi on his back in a piggyback ride.
"I'll stay here and look out for Katsumi," (Y/n) replied, giving Kuroo and Tetsuya a peck on their cheeks.
"Alright," Kuroo kissed her back before heading into the water with Tetsuya, leaving (Y/n) by the side of the pool, watching their daughter play with her friends. She smiled at the sound of the children's laughter, but soon, her phone buzzed with an important message. She began typing a quick reply, but then her heart skipped a beat. A shrill scream echoed from the poolside.
Turning quickly, (Y/n)'s eyes widened in horror as she saw people rushing to catch Katsumi, who had slipped off the diving platform into the deep water. Katsumi couldn't swim.
"Katsumi!" (Y/n) screamed, her heart pounding in her chest. Without thinking, she dove into the water, her eyes searching frantically for her daughter. The water around her was blurry, making it nearly impossible to see clearly.
'Where are you?!' she thought desperately as she swam deeper, pushing through the waves. After what felt like an eternity, she spotted a small figure drifting in the water—Katsumi.
'There she is!'
Panic surged through her as she realized that she was running out of air. Her chest tightened, and her lungs burned for oxygen, but there was no time. She reached out and grabbed Katsumi's wrist, pulling with all her strength to get them both back to the surface. Her vision started to fade, her body growing weak.
With one final push, she managed to get Katsumi above the water. But (Y/n) didn't have the strength to follow. Her body began sinking back into the depths, her eyes closing as the cold water overwhelmed her.
Everything went black.
Suddenly, a pair of strong arms gripped her waist and pulled her upward with incredible force. Kuroo's frantic breathing echoed in her ears as he dragged both her and Katsumi to the surface. He laid them both down on the poolside, his hands shaking as he tried to revive them.
"Wake up!" Kuroo shouted, desperately shaking (Y/n) and checking her pulse. Nothing.
The frantic scene unfolded as paramedics arrived, taking over the situation. "She's not breathing!" Kuroo cried, tears streaming down his face as he performed CPR. But nothing happened.
"We need to take her to the hospital immediately!" one of the paramedics shouted as they loaded (Y/n) into the ambulance.
The ambulance ride felt like an eternity to Kuroo. He sat in silence with their children, his eyes glued to (Y/n) as she lay unconscious on the stretcher. At the hospital, (Y/n) was rushed into a room while Kuroo and the kids were told to wait outside.
Kuroo clenched his fists, pacing back and forth, his anxiety growing with each passing minute. His heart was heavy, the fear of losing her overwhelming.
"Is mommy going to be okay?" Tetsuya asked through tear-filled eyes, holding onto his sister's hand as they huddled together.
Kuroo knelt down and pulled them into his arms, trying to hold it together for their sake. "Come here, both of you," he whispered, hugging them tightly. His mind raced, praying that (Y/n) would be alright.
Inside the room, doctors worked tirelessly to revive her. They shocked her with a defibrillator, but for what seemed like forever, there was no response.
"Her heart's still not beating!" one of the doctors called out, panic in their voice. The shocking continued, but nothing seemed to work.
"Try again!" the doctor shouted, refusing to give up.
And then, on the last shock, there was a faint gasp for air.
"THE PATIENT IS BREATHING!" the doctor shouted, and the room filled with a collective sigh of relief.
Kuroo was still holding the kids when the doctor came out. He was trembling with worry, but when the doctor spoke, he felt a wave of relief wash over him.
"Family of Kuroo (Y/n)?" the doctor asked.
"I'm her husband," Kuroo said, rushing forward with the kids by his side. "How is she?"
"We successfully saved her life," the doctor said with a smile, and Kuroo let out a deep, shaky breath. Tears welled up in his eyes as he clutched his children tighter. "She is awake now. You can see her."
"Thank you," Kuroo whispered, bowing his head, his voice breaking with gratitude.
The doctor led them to (Y/n)'s room. Kuroo opened the door slowly, his heart pounding. The beeping of the monitors echoed in the room as (Y/n) lay in the bed, her eyes fluttering open. She gave them a weak smile.
"Mommy..." Katsumi said softly, tears filling her eyes as she stood beside her brother.
"(Y/n)..." Kuroo whispered, walking over to her and taking her hand in his.
"Pumpkin..." (Y/n)'s voice was faint but filled with love. She looked at Kuroo, her eyes warm despite the exhaustion. "I'm fine, hubby... don't cry."
"I'm sorry, I couldn't save you in time," Kuroo said, his voice thick with emotion.
"It's okay," (Y/n) smiled weakly, wiping away the tears from his cheek. "I'm fine now, right?"
Kuroo nodded, still shaken but relieved. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, his heart swelling with gratitude.
The children clung to her as Kuroo embraced them all. They didn't stop crying, but it was a different kind of cry now—relief, love, and the overwhelming joy that she was still here.
It was that day that Kuroo made a promise to himself, a vow he would carry with him forever.
"I will protect them no matter what," he whispered to himself. "Even if it costs me everything."
