(Y/n) laid her head down on the table, staring at Kuroo's room with a heavy heart. "Hubby... is... not home... yet," she whispered softly, closing her eyes as a deep sigh escaped her lips.
'Usui... is leaving'
'What does the Miyazaki family want?'
'I want... to see Hubby...'
Tears began to fall as she whispered his name. "Hubby..." The quiet sobs she tried to suppress only grew louder.
"Pumpkin?" A voice called out from the door, and (Y/n) looked up in surprise, wiping her tears hastily. It was Kuroo, who had just finished a shower and was heading to his room, always finding her waiting for him there. But today, something felt different.
He paused when he saw her tears. "Is she crying...?" His heart clenched as he called her name again, stepping into her room with concern.
Her eyes widened when she saw him, and she hurriedly wiped away the evidence of her tears. "Hubby..." she whispered again, her voice faltering.
"Pumpkin, what's wrong?" Kuroo asked, his tone gentle but full of worry. She shook her head and forced a smile, though it didn't reach her eyes. "It's nothing," she lied, but Kuroo wasn't buying it.
"Pumpkin, tell me. I'm here for you," he said softly, moving closer. She looked away, feeling the sadness creeping back in.
"Is it because of that guy?" he asked, his voice quieter now.
She nodded slowly, and Kuroo let out a sigh. "Gosh, I just want to jump over there and hug you right now," he muttered, ruffling his hair in frustration.
"Now tell me, I'm listening," he said, leaning against the wall, his gaze softening as he waited.
"Usui is my stepbrother," (Y/n) said quietly, and Kuroo's eyes widened.
"Damn, he acts more like your boyfriend than a stepbro," he joked, trying to lighten the mood. A small smile tugged at (Y/n)'s lips, but it was fleeting as she continued.
"When I moved to Osaka, my parents found him wandering alone..." she trailed off, her voice wavering slightly.
"So, basically, his family left him?" Kuroo asked, and she nodded again.
"My parents decided to adopt him," she continued. "Usui was always kind and gentle. He was there for me whenever I was sad."
"And what happened?" Kuroo pressed, his curiosity piqued.
"(Y/n)?" she whispered, almost to herself, then looked up at Kuroo. "Usui is from the Miyazaki family."
Kuroo froze, his mind racing. "Wait... the Miyazaki family? The one that's been trying to find their son?" He quickly pulled out his phone and began typing.
"Yeah..." (Y/n) said, her voice soft and tinged with worry. "Tomorrow, he's going back to Osaka."
Kuroo took a deep breath, trying to process the gravity of the situation. "Since tomorrow is Saturday, I'll go with you and escort him to the train station," he said firmly, giving her a reassuring smile.
(Y/n) nodded silently, grateful for his support.
Just then, Usui barged into her room, causing both of them to look up in surprise.
"Onii-chan!" (Y/n) said, startled. Usui glanced at Kuroo before smirking.
"Oi, Rooster head, since I'm leaving tomorrow, let's play a game," Usui said with a mischievous grin.
"Hoo? Then deal," Kuroo shot back, his playful energy returning. "The door's open. Lock it after you come inside."
Kuroo closed his window, turned off his lights, and left to prepare for the game.
"Onii-chan, what are you planning?" (Y/n) asked, confused, as she closed the window.
"Me?" Usui replied, his smile widening. "Nothing. Just want to play with you and Rooster head before I leave." The way he said it made (Y/n) feel like something was hidden behind his words, but she couldn't quite figure it out.
Kuroo opened the door a moment later. "Let's play."
Later that evening, the three of them sat on the floor, playing Uno.
"Uno!" (Y/n) called out as she placed the card down with a grin.
"How?" Kuroo groaned, clearly frustrated. "She's won five rounds in a row!"
Usui ruffled his hair in mock frustration. "I swear, this girl is unbeatable."
(Y/n) giggled, tossing her hair back. "You guys can't beat me," she teased, making both of them laugh.
"Let's play another round!" they shouted in unison, causing her to laugh even harder.
Midnight came, and (Y/n) yawned, leaning against the wall. Kuroo rested his head in her lap, his eyes half-closed in exhaustion.
"Looks like he's really tired," (Y/n) smiled softly, watching Usui sleep soundly on her bed. "He's sure energetic."
Kuroo smiled up at her, his hand playing gently with hers. "I'm glad I found you," he murmured, his voice full of affection.
(Y/n) looked down at him, her heart swelling with warmth. "I'm glad too," she said, her fingers brushing through his hair.
Kuroo slowly got up, his expression turning serious. He cupped her cheek gently, his thumb caressing her skin. Then, without warning, he leaned in and kissed her. The kiss was slow and full of love, each movement speaking volumes of the emotions they shared.
When they finally pulled away, Kuroo smiled at her, his eyes soft and sincere. "I'll always be here for you, pumpkin."
