"I'm home!" (Y/n) called as she stepped inside, taking off her shoes.
"Welcome home, cutie pie," Usui's voice echoed from the kitchen.
(Y/n) made her way to the kitchen and found Usui standing by the counter, holding a knife and cutting a tomato. "Are you a serial killer? There's tomato everywhere on your hand," she laughed, watching as he wiped his hands with a tissue.
"I was trying to cook something," Usui replied, a little flustered, but quickly turned back to the counter, placing the sliced tomatoes on a plate.
"Do what?" (Y/n) grinned, but his behavior seemed off.
"Nothing... go change and come eat dinner," he said without meeting her gaze. His tone was slightly more distant than usual.
'He's acting weird,' she thought, her mind drifting as she nodded and left for her room.
A few minutes earlier, before (Y/n) arrived home, Usui had been happily chopping tomatoes when his phone buzzed. He put the knife down and checked the message from a friend, his eyes scanning the screen. His smile quickly faded as he read the headline:
"Hot news! Miyazaki family is trying to find their son!"
His finger hovered over the screen, reading further: "Miyazaki family lost their son 9 years ago and is still searching for him!"
The news hit him like a punch to the gut. The Miyazaki family, his biological parents, had abandoned him when he was just 11 years old. They were a powerful family, owners of a major company in Tokyo, but they had left him crying alone outside. Usui's fists clenched in anger.
"Tsk. Like I'll come back...you all left me," Usui muttered under his breath, his anger growing as his expression darkened. He squeezed the tomatoes in his hand, smashing them in frustration.
Suddenly, the sound of the door opening caught his attention.
"I'm home!" (Y/n) called out, and Usui quickly shoved his phone into his pocket, trying to mask his emotions.
After changing into more comfortable clothes, (Y/n) flopped down on her bed and sighed. She had returned home alone today since Kuroo had practice, and she missed him. Taking out her phone, she began scrolling through social media, trying to distract herself.
Something caught her eye, and she froze.
"Miyazaki family is trying to find their son."
Her heart skipped a beat. She covered her mouth with her hand as her eyes widened in shock. "They want Usui... back?" The words felt like a punch in the stomach. Her hands started shaking as she struggled to process what she had just read.
Her phone slipped from her grip, landing on the bed as a cold feeling washed over her. The thought of losing Usui, of him going back to a family that had abandoned him, made her chest tighten with a mix of confusion and fear.
"(Y/n), dinner's ready!" Usui's voice called from downstairs.
"I-I'm coming," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself before heading downstairs.
Dinner was quiet. (Y/n) sat down at the table, trying to act normal, but inside, she was struggling with the news. She looked at Usui, who was seated across from her, but his usual easygoing demeanor seemed a little off tonight.
"Is Dad home?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
"He's working the night shift," Usui replied, and they both quietly began eating.
As they ate, (Y/n) could feel the weight of her emotions threatening to spill over. Usui noticed she seemed distant, and the silence between them felt heavier than usual.
"Are you okay?" Usui asked, his voice laced with concern.
(Y/n) hesitated for a moment, her eyes drifting down to her plate. "I saw on social media that the Miyazaki family wants you back..." she said quietly, unable to hide the sadness in her voice.
Usui's expression hardened slightly as he placed his chopsticks down. "So you saw."
"Are you going... back?" Her voice cracked, and she looked away to keep the tears at bay.
Usui's jaw tightened, and he took a deep breath. "No... but there are things I need to discuss with them," he said, his voice rough. "It's complicated."
A tear slipped down (Y/n)'s cheek, and Usui's eyes softened. "If you don't come back..." she whispered, her voice trembling with fear.
He stood up and walked around the table, gently pulling her into his arms. "I'll come back, I promise," he whispered, his voice reassuring but heavy with the weight of his own emotions. "But right now, it's not the right time to meet them."
(Y/n) held onto him, still feeling the sting of uncertainty. "And if something happens?" she asked, her voice barely audible.
Usui kissed her forehead softly. "If anything happens, stay with Kuroo. He'll protect you. I know he will," he said with a faint smile, trying to lighten the mood. "And I'll always come back to you."
(Y/n) buried her face in his chest, feeling a little better but still uncertain about what the future might hold.☆☆☆
