The score was 23-22, and the match was on the line. (Y/n) panted heavily, sweat dripping down her face as she wiped it with the back of her hand. Every muscle in her body screamed for rest, but she wasn't about to give up now.
"(Y/n)-san!" Daichi shouted, snapping her out of her thoughts. She quickly snapped back to focus, receiving the ball from Kageyama. "Synchronized attack!" Daichi called, signaling to the team. The players moved in perfect unison, and (Y/n) jumped behind Asahi just as Kageyama tossed the ball to her.
She glanced toward Oikawa, his intense gaze locked on her. Her heart pounded in her chest, and with one final push, she swung her arm and hit the ball hard. The sound of it slicing through the air echoed in the gym, and the referee blew the whistle.
"25-22!"
"YOSHA!" the boys cheered, a surge of adrenaline rushing through them. (Y/n) fell to her knees, breathing heavily, but her smile stretched across her face. She took a sip of water, trying to steady her racing heartbeat.
"You did a great job, (Y/n)," Daichi said, patting her on the back.
"Thank you so much," she smiled, but her eyes darkened slightly as she turned her focus back to Oikawa's back.
"I will beat you, Oikawa," she whispered under her breath, her glare aimed at him.
The referee's whistle broke through her thoughts. The third match was starting.
The score was 32-31. The final match was in full swing, and fatigue was starting to wear on (Y/n). "Shit... I'm so tired," she muttered under her breath.
"(Y/n)-san! Nice serve!" Sugawara cheered, striking a playful "nice serve" pose. (Y/n) gave him a tired smile, her body exhausted but her determination still burning.
She threw the ball into the air, running and jumping with all the strength she had left. The ball flew through the air, and their libero was able to receive it, sending it back to her side.
"Daichi-san!" she called, and he responded immediately, tossing it to Kageyama.
Hinata, catching her eye, gave her a determined nod. (Y/n) nodded back, signaling to him that they were on the same page. She sprinted to the left side, while Hinata took the right. Kageyama tossed the ball to her, and (Y/n) aimed carefully at the right side. Oikawa saw the angle and started moving to block it.
But (Y/n) was faster. She slammed the ball hard, and Oikawa couldn't reach it in time.
"33-31!"
"YOSHAA!!" the boys shouted in unison, their excitement and relief overwhelming.
Tears welled in (Y/n)'s eyes as she looked around at her teammates. They were all crying, their emotions raw from the battle they had just fought.
Sugawara rushed to her side, pulling her into a tight hug. "I'm so proud of you," he said, his voice thick with emotion as tears streamed down his face.
The rest of the team joined in the hug, their collective joy and relief palpable. The referee blew the whistle, announcing the winner.
"Karasuno High School is the winner!" the referee proclaimed, and the gym erupted in cheers. Aoba Johsai, on the other hand, was left in tears, their disappointment overwhelming.
"We did it!" Hinata shouted, his voice full of disbelief and excitement.
"You all did great," Daichi said with a proud smile. "Now, go change. I'm treating you all to dinner!"
The team cheered, happier than ever as they headed to the locker rooms.
After the match, Oikawa walked alone through the hallway, his shoulders slumped with the weight of the loss. He passed by Ushijima, who was standing quietly in the corridor.
Oikawa's gaze flicked to Ushijima for a moment before he continued walking, but then he stopped and turned back, his voice cutting through the silence.
"You chose the wrong path, Ushijima... There was a place where you could have realized your true potential."
Ushijima didn't respond immediately, just staring ahead, his expression unreadable.
"Because of your worthless pride, you didn't choose it," Oikawa added, his voice almost accusing.
Ushijima finally spoke, his tone calm but firm. "So you're saying I should have gone to Shiratorizawa instead of Seijoh?"
Oikawa clicked his tongue in frustration, clearly irritated. "Tsk," he muttered, before walking off without another word.
(Y/n) had overheard their conversation as she passed by, but she didn't stop or say anything. She simply walked past Ushijima, her focus on something else. Ushijima watched her leave but didn't call out.
Back in her room, (Y/n) lay on her bed, still riding the emotional high of their victory. Her phone suddenly rang, interrupting her thoughts. She looked at the caller ID and smiled.
Hubby <3
With a quick tap, she answered the call.
"Hubby!" she greeted with a soft smile.
"Pumpkin!" His voice was warm and affectionate. "I heard you won the match against Seijoh."
"Yeah, we did," she said, her heart swelling with pride. "Now we have to beat Shiratorizawa tomorrow to go to nationals."
"You're strong. I know you'll win," he replied, his confidence in her unwavering.
"I hope so," (Y/n) said, smiling to herself.
"It's late. You need to rest and save your energy for tomorrow's match," he said gently.
"Okay. Good night, Hubby," she said, her voice soft and tired.
"Good night, babe," he responded, blowing a kiss over the phone.
(Y/n) smiled, her heart full, and hung up the phone. She closed her eyes, content and ready for the challenge that awaited her the next day.
