Friday Morning
"Here for Kyoka Jirou," Kaminari spoke to the secretary at the desk, holding a few photos in his hands.
"Kyoka. . .Jirou," the secretary skimmed through names. "J. . . J. . . ah Jirou, are you a significant other?" She looked back up at him.
"Uh- no, no, friends," he answered sadly.
I never even got the chance to ask her. His mind trailed depressingly.
"Oh, my bad," the secretary called over another nurse who further escorted him to room 207. A nurse he'd met many times before.
"Hi nurse Reiko," he waved lightly.
"Hello Denki," she said quite cheerfully. "I think you'll find today to be great," she added, opening the door to room 207.
"Really? Why?" He asked.
"You'll see," she said with a grin and shut the door.
Jirou was seated at her table filled with things to read and a tray of food, to her right, her bed was neatly folded. The window curtains were pulled back, allowing the sun's rays warm her indigo hair.
"Oh Kami, what are you doing here?" Jirou expressed a genuine smile.
"You remembered my name?" Kaminari returned her smile with a weak grin.
"Um, of course I did? Why wouldn't I?" She said perplexed. "What's with the photos?" She asked as he set them out, resting his phone next to them. Sitting across from her on the simple table he rested his arms along the wood.
"Oh- I just thought. . .I don't know, maybe seeing photos would help you remember," Kaminari had brought three.
"What do you mean 'help me remember'?" She tilted her head, not seeming to think anything was wrong. Grabbing a photo before she started to chuckle. "Oh my gosh, this is when we went to the pier and Bakugo shoved Midoriya in the water," she reached her arm out to grab all of them as Kaminari jolted his head up, astounded.
"Wait a minute, tell me where this was taken," Kaminari pointed to a photo of Sero laughing at Bakugo while pointing to a pufferfish.
"That's when we all went to that one aquarium," Jirou looked back up at him with a look he had missed for so long. "You spent so long looking for one of those machines that turn your pennies into cool coins that we lost you for an hour."
"This one, tell me this one," Kaminari hopped up from his seat, pointing to the next photo.
"You're acting so jumpy, you didn't eat one of those super sweet candy things again, right?" Jirou looked at him like he was crazy.
"Just answer," he spoke excitedly.
"Alright. . .? Well, this was that arcade in the mall, and Aoyama had just won that super squishy disco ball covered in sequins," she replied slowly. "Which by the way, we're still going to right?"
"Jirou listen to me, what is my name?" He took her by the shoulders, causing her heart to leap out of her chest.
"What? Why? W-Why are you acting so weird?" She looked back at him puzzled.
"First and last name," he added, anticipation filling his body.
"Denki. . .Denki Kaminari," she said suspiciously. "Kam, are you sure you're not lying about that candy? Because the last time–" her talking was cut off when he swept her up in a hug. "WhAt aRe yOu dOinG," she said startled as his grip on her tightened.
"Oh my god you're back," he brought his head in the crook of her neck, despite her personal bubble being totally invaded, she didn't bother pulling away this time.
"What do you mean back? . . .I've never left???" She could see the tiny balled up tears forming in the corners of his eyes.
"I thought I lost you, I didn't know if you'd ever remember me again," Kaminari sucked several quick breathes like he was on the verge of crying.
"Lost me?" Jirou looked over at a clock on the wall, it was 7 AM. What she didn't know was that it was Friday morning, 12 days after the incident, not Monday when it had first occurred. "What do you mean? I've been in this hospital for like, two nights?"
"Jirou. . .it's been 12 days," Kaminari spoke quietly.
"What?" Jirou left his grip to look at his phone resting on the table, checking the date. "Holy shit, what happened?"
Kaminari couldn't reply, tears were already streaming down his face.
"Kaminari, w-why are you crying?!" She began fanning her arms frantically. "Answer Thunder Dolt!" She shook him for an answer.
She'd never seen him cry before. But he didn't look sad. He looked happy.
Joyful tears?
"You forgot who I was for 12 days," Kaminari replied, swiping a hand over his face.
"Kam- Kam, stop crying," Jirou blinked back tears, and in a surprising twist, she started crying as well.
Nurse Reiko shifted her glasses on her nose, reaching for the door handle to Kyoka's room. She had returned to notify her of her parents arriving at 10, but before she pushed the handle she paused, looking through the rectangular, door window.
She smiled with warmth, biting her lip as she let go of the handle. Two teenagers stood laughing in the center of the room under the light of the dawn. Both talking quietly, clutching one another's clothes tightly in a nostalgiac hug like it'd been centuries.
Later. She thought to herself, leaving them alone to themselves.
