40) What Life Could've Been

Three years have gone by, and Incendium found herself living a new life. She made adjustments to her holomatter, switching her eye color to blue, letting her hair grow longer and making it brown instead of silver. Simple changes but still disguised her well. Although no one knows her name, she decided to give herself an alternate name; 'Idda.' After her mother.

'Idda' was currently rummaging through her clothes, trying to find the appropriate attire for her date. Deciding dresses were too much to handle, she changed into a suit and rushed to her car. It was the same, a black Maserati, with a few stickers covering up the Autobot insignia. The news had proclaimed Transformers a "threat" after the Battle of Chicago. She doesn't know how long her disguise will stand. Over the course of three years, Lennox has been calling her nonstop. Although he was her friend, she couldn't trust him enough to answer the call. Already running late, 'Idda' flew through the highway, but not fast enough to attract any cop vehicles. Who knew what disguises Decepticons wore these days? She stopped in front of a neat restaurant by the shore, the sun had begun to set, leaving that small glimpse of light.

"You look beautiful." Josine greeted.

"And you....wow, you look enchanting." 'Idda' kissed her on the lips. The waitress smiled sheepishly and handed the two couples their menus. "Thank you."

"This place is beautiful....a bit too fancy for me. How did you find it?"

"Oh you know, browsing the Internet." 'Idda' chuckled. "I recommend anything from the pasta section and the burger menu. They're both amazing!"

"I'll take your word." Josine grinned. This is wrong.....Optimus is your spark mate. Optimus is dead, 'Idda' concluded. She spent years trying to reach him, but no word and the dreaded thought of him gone grew. Not to mention the other Autobots were completely silent and their location was unknown. Knockout outdid himself. "Idda? Hello?"

"Hm?"

"The waitress is here."

"Oh right! Sorry." 'Idda' smiled. After taking their orders, Josine cleared her throat and raised the glass of wine.

"To us."

"To us." And the two drank the wine. After discussing plans to move in, their meals came out rather quickly. "Wow, thank you!" 'Idda' smiled at the waitress.

"Thank you! This looks amazing." Josine grinned. "I'll pay, my treat."

"You kidding? We're celebrating us! I'll pay."

"How bout we pay?"

"That sounds better." 'Idda' laughed. "Eat!" Laughter rang throughout the restaurant as the two laced their hands together while chatting, sharing each other's plates. The sky was dark and littered with stars as they both paid for their end of the meal. Josine climbed into 'Idda's' car as 'Idda' drove her home.

"I had fun." Josine gave 'Idda' a peck on the cheek before exiting. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight." After watching her disappear into her home safely, 'Idda' drove back to her apartment. She slumped on the couch as she switched on the tv, skipping the channels to news. It was all about the Chicago fiasco and 'Idda' huffed. "Wasn't our fault." There was a knock at the door and 'Idda' turned off the tv, staring at the door cautiously.

"Incendium, I know you're in there." Lennox sighed. "Look, I just want to talk." Well, I can't hide from him anymore. She opened the door to reveal Lennox standing before her. His mouth dropped slightly before studying her.

"Do you know where Optimus is?"

"No.....I was cut off from NEST." Lennox explained. 'Idda' opened the door wider for him to enter and he did, she closed and locked the door. "The entire program was disassembled."

"What about Sam?"

"Bee disappeared a few months ago. He doesn't know either. No one knows." Lennox sighed. "A few people are on the outlook for the truck, but if they can't find it.....no one can." The two carried their conversation to the couch, 'Idda' offered Lennox a drink but he refused.

"He can't be dead." 'Idda' groaned and rubbed her temples.

"Can't you sense him, or something?"

"I haven't been able to since we separated.......even then, I could feel his Spark connected but somehow the connection was lost soon after......he might've went into stasis." 'Idda' growled. "But who knows?"

"I'm sorry."

"I should be there with him! I should be by his side." 'Idda' cried. "I feel so alone."

"You're never alone." Lennox placed a hand on her shoulder. "Also it's kind of foolish to come back to your apartment......"

"I started moving in after the searches. I'm not dumb, Lennox. They stopped after weeks of searching."

"Did you change your alt mode?"

"Yes."

"Okay, just making sure.....how are you adjusting? Anything interesting?"

"Yeah, I just came back from a date and you're killing the moment."

"Ooooh! With who?"

"This girl at my workplace—"

"Aw, that's adorable." Lennox smiled. "I always believed that you find a new soulmate after losing one."

"Well, let's hope not."

"What are you going to do when you find out Optimus is alive?"

"Tell her the truth." 'Idda' shrugged. "There's no point in keeping it from her at that point.....but I'll eventually tell her, despite the circumstances."

"I'm glad you're doing okay." Lennox rubbed her back reassuringly before standing up. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight. It was nice talking to you." 'Idda' smiled.

"Yeah, maybe you should've answered my calls."

"I'm sorry! I was grieving!"

"Uh yeah, sure. Ignoring my calls but going out on dates. I got it." Lennox replied sarcastically. 'Idda' laughed and shooed him out. The door finally closed and she could feel the cold emptiness settle in once again.
