*A/N: I know some things I'm mentioning in the story technically occur after HP (pop culture things), but I know nothing about the 90s, so just go with it. Also, I recognize that Katie is a year below the twins in the books, but I wanted another recognizable character in their year and she was the best choice. Enjoy the story!*
"Now to find platform 9 3/4" My mom said as she looked around Kings Cross Station. "You know, you'd think they'd send some sort of instructions on how to get there."
"I think it's a safe bet to start between platforms 9 and 10." I replied. I walked with my mom towards the sign that said platform 10. "Look Mom, that man has an owl. I bet you three galleons he's taking his son to Hogwarts." How muggles don't notice the absolute chaos of this each year is astounding. This guy, along with many other people, had owls on their carts and were wearing clothes that looked like they belongs in the 1600s. I'm almost 99% sure that's not a common occurrence in England, but I've only been living here for about three weeks so maybe it's me that's out of place.
"Margaret, we do not bet. Besides, you're probably right and it would be stupid to bet against you. Let's go ask him if he knows how to get to the train." Luckily, he showed us how to get onto the platform by running straight at a brick wall. The fun I would have with that if I weren't so nervous.
The platform is bustling with activity. Families are saying goodbye to their children and loading their trunks onto the train. I hug my mother and say a quick goodbye.
"Don't forget to write to me. I want to know all about your new school. The headmaster wasn't very forthcoming on what Hogwarts is like."
"I promise. I should probably go now Mom, love you!" I say as I hop aboard the Hogwarts Express. Professor Dumbledore had come to our apartment about a week ago to tell us about Hogwarts and the transition between Ilvermorny. He was a strange guy, but one of the most brilliant wizards to ever exist. I've found that intelligence and weirdness often go hand in hand.
After walking through a few minutes, I found an empty compartment, which I sat down in and waited for someone to join me. I didn't want to spend this whole train ride alone.
Based on the various attributions of the houses, I was assuming I would be in Slytherin or Gryffindor. I was ambitious, which all my previous teachers would whole-heartedly agree to. Especially my old potions professor, who I had managed to convince to give me independent studies to try to learn as much as possible. I always -always- needed to be the best at everything. I also like to consider myself quite cunning and clever.
But I could also be in Gryffindor. I try to never let fear hold me back. Because having fears is rational, but being able to face the head on without backing down makes one truly brave. I think back to nights in hospital rooms and think that must count for something. People consider me confident and not easily rattled.
Eventually, a pretty girl entered by compartment followed by two others girls. "Hi, I'm Angelina" said the first girl who entered. "This is Alicia," she pointed to her left, "And this is Katie" she pointed to the girl who was now sitting next to me. "Do you mind if we sit here?"
"Not at all. I'm Margaret," I said.
"Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around before, but you don't look like a first year" Angelina asked.
"I'm not. This is my first year at Hogwarts, but I'm a transfer from Ilvermorny. I'm going into my sixth year" I replied.
"Cool! We're all six years too-Gryffindor! Why did you decide to transfer here?" Katie asked me, looking away from the cat that sat on her lap.
"Personal reasons."
"Oh" Katie replied, looking a little upset that I didn't elaborate on my transfer. I wasn't ready to share the reasons why with anyone yet. There was an awkward silence for a little bit before I asked,
"Do you guys play quidditch?" I was a chaser at Ilvermorny and I loved it. I hadn't played quidditch before I went to school, but I quickly picked it up. I enjoyed the speed and thrill of the game.
"Yes!" Angelina and Katie replied, "We're all chasers for our team."
"Not everyone" Alicia grumbled across from me. "My dad said I wasn't allowed to play again after that injury last year." She turned and looked at me, " I feel off my broom and was knocked out for two weeks. I missed a ton of classes and fell behind."
Angelina patted her friend on the back before turning to me and asking, "Do you play? We'll need a new chaser".
I laughed, "Yeah, and amazingly I play chaser."
"perfect!" Katie practically screamed. "Now you just need to be sorted into Gryffindor".
At that moment the compartment door entered again, two redheads and a kid with dreadlocks entered our compartment.
"Hello ladies" said the one on the left. I caught Angelina blushing when he looked her way.
"Hi Fred, Hi George, Hi Lee" replied Alicia. I just stared having no idea who any of these people were. It was also very crammed in here, but I didn't mind.
"Well Fred. It looks like we have someone new in our midst." The redhead on the right said with a smirk on his face.
"You're right George. May we ask who you are?"
"My name's Margaret. I'm new this year but I'll be a year 6." I replied.
"Pleasure to meet you Margaret" The redhead said. "I'm George, this here is Fred, and that one is Lee" he said taking a seat next to me, pushing Katie to the side.
"George, I was sitting there" Katie huffed.
"Well now I'm sitting here. Crazy how the world works." I stifled my laughter at George's reply.
George and his twin Fred were identical. It was difficult to tell them apart, so I spent the entire train ride trying to find any physical differences between the two. And I found myself really enjoying looking at these two because, let's face it, they're hot.
"Like what you see, newbie?" The redhead who I think is Fred said.
"Actually, I'm trying to determine if all twins are this ugly or if it's just you two."
They gasped. "Well George it seems like we have quite the sassy one on our hands,"
"Do they not have manners in America?" George said.
I shrugged, "depends on who you ask"
For the rest of the train ride I laughed and joked with these people. I was hoping I would end up in Gryffindor so I wouldn't have to go through the process of meeting new people and making friends again. The girls in the compartment were incredibly sweet, and the twins and their friend Lee were hilarious. I found myself enjoying their company immensely.
When the train finally stopped, we all left the train. I could see Hogwarts castle in the distance. It was pretty impressive. "Hey Margaret, want to come with us in a carriage?" Katie asked me.
"Sorry, but I'm supposed to go with the first years so that I can get sorted."
"No problem! I hope you get Gryffindor" She winked and went off with Angelina and Alicia while I went towards the large man calling for all the first years.
*That's the end of the first chapter! Did you like it? I appreciate any feedback you have and want to share*
