When we reached Hogwarts, a witch, who introduced herself as Professor McGonagall, gave us instructions for the sorting. She then looked at me and told me I would go first since I was a special case.
We walked into what they called the Great Hall, which was much smaller than Ilvermorny's. But I guess Ilvermorny had a lot more people than Hogwarts. The US and surrounding areas are much larger than the UK and the neighboring territories. Both by land size and population. As I was examining the hall, Prof. McGonagall placed an old hat on a stool. It shocked me when it began to sing. There was no musical number at Ilvermorny, but our sorting ceremony is more intense than Hogwarts.
At Ilvermorny, we stand on the school symbol. If you get Horned Serpent, the crystal set into its forehead will light up. If the Wampus wants the student, it roars. The Thunderbird signifies its approval by beating its wings, and the Pukwudgie will raise its arrow into the air. If multiple houses want someone, then they get to choose. Both Thunderbird and Pukwudgie reacted to me, but I chose Pukwudgie solely because the name is incredibly entertaining.
"Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! We have a new student in our midst from Ilvermorny, in the US. She will be sorted first." Professor McGonagall then indicated for me to come sit on the stool.
I smiled and went up and sat down. The hat covered my head and a voice spoke out to me, which startled me. I guess I already heard it talk, but this was different. It was in my head.
"Hmm. Very interesting. You would do very well in Slytherin. Very well indeed. You have unrestrained ambition. And your family has a history of doing well in this house." I thought that was strange. I never knew anyone who went to Hogwarts. As far as I know, my entire family went to Ilvermorny. "You would also do well in Gryffindor. You are extremely brave for facing the things you have faced. I also see that you would prefer Gryffindor. All right then, I've made my decision."
GRYFFINDOR
The table draped in red and gold (horrific color combination-I look abysmal in warm colors. If I'm being honest, Ravenclaw would have my vote for colors. I look good in blue. Or Slytherin. I'm not a huge fan of green but I don't look horrible and I wear a lot of black. Hufflepuff is the worst though. I can't wear yellow; it blends in with my skin.) started to cheer loudly. I lock eyes with Fred and George and make my way over to their table. George puts his arm around me and pulls me in for a hug.
"Congratulations" He whispers in my ear. I smile and turn my attention to the rest of the people up front.
*GEORGE'S POV*
She's beautiful. She has brown, curly hair and beautiful green eyes. When I first met her on the train, I was captivated. Not to mention she seems confident and easy-going with a great sense of humor. I was hoping she would be in Gryffindor. Fred had Angelina to fawn over, but I had never really had someone catch my eye. Fred agrees that she's quite attractive. I hope that we can at least be friends.
"What's taking so long?" Fred whispered in my ear. I hadn't realized, but this sorting was taking longer than they usually do. Maybe it's because she's older so it's more confusing for the hat.
"I don't know."
"I hope she gets Gryffindor. She seems like a good addition."
I smiled. "Me too"
The hat finally reached its decision and declared Gryffindor; I was ecstatic. Fred and I cheered loudly for our new friend. When she sat down beside me, she had the biggest smile on her face. I quickly pulled her in for a hug, and was surprised and happy that she didn't flinch or pull away.
*MAG. POV*
After everyone was sorted, Dumbledore stood up to make a a speech. "I will save the exciting news for after dinner. For now, Tuck in!"
With that an abundance of food appeared on the table. I got laughed at every time I asked what something is. It's not my fault British food is weird. To me, the food here isn't as good as at Ilvermorny (it's weird!), but I was starving.
Everyone started talking excitedly about pudding. It reminded me of my mom who gets very excited about pudding, especially with whipped cream. To me, pudding was ok, but definitely not worth the hype of this. It wasn't until a large variety of desserts appeared (ironically lacking actual pudding) that I realized pudding does not mean pudding, but rather desserts. This will be a fun year. Once the ~pudding~ (look at me assimilating to the culture) was finished, Dumbledore stood up to make some announcements.
He announced some various, boring things. But then he said that quidditch would not be happening this year. I gasped. I had been so excited to try out for the chaser position and now it wasn't happening! The twins next to me also shouted in disapproval. I made a mental note to ask them if they played later. He then said that Hogwarts would be hosting the Triwizard Tournament this year. Loud cheers erupted across the great hall.
"You're joking!" I heard Fred yell.
Dumbledore replied "I assure you I am not, Mr Weasley". I had already decided upon meeting Dumbledore that he was a strange man. I was right. He was apparently a brilliant wizard. But he was also very strange. Yet, I listened intently to every word that came out of his mouth. Then he said that there was an age restriction.
"For safety reasons, we have agreed that in order to enter the tournament, contestants must be seventeen or older."
"That's RUBBISH" screamed Fred. I chuckled at that. I stopped paying attention once I realized I wouldn't have a chance (I'm only 16). The twins immediately started discussing plans to get around the age restriction. I decided I would help them later. I don't know how they would do it, but it'll be great fun trying. Plus, it'll be a way for me to grow close to the two.
