In the Forest

When I woke up, I couldn't feel my right leg. I could move after the stunning spells, but I was incredibly stiff and everything hurt. I opened my eyes and discovered I was in a forest. What forest, I don't know. I haven't really had time to explore Great Britain. And when I disapparated, I just kinda thought "anywhere but here" as my destination.

The pain hit me like a truck when I tried to move my leg. I must have some nerve damage, otherwise it would've felt like this the whole time. I looked down and saw a chunk of flesh missing from my right calf. I had splinched. I decided I would never apparate again, since I always seem to end up worse than when I started.

There's no spell to fix splinching-it's a potion. I knew a million potions that could help with all my problems right now. But I used healing charms because I didn't have access to a cauldron or ingredients. See, this is why potions making is so valuable. They can do much more than your wand. But it didn't help that I couldn't stand. Or move my right leg. Plus, I had a splitting headache from hunger, dehydration, and pain.

I used the water summoning spell and pointed my wand at my face. I ended up almost dying from that. So I managed to gather enough energy to transfigure a rock into a cup so I could drink. Then I dragged myself over to a tree and propped myself up. There's no way I could apparate in this condition. I summoned some bandages and wrapped them around my leg after I cleaned it as well as I could. Even if I did have the tools to fix this splinch, it was probably too late. I wish I could summon food; I was starving.

I couldn't apparate back to the Burrow. I was way too weak. So I settled for transfiguring a pair of branches into crutches for me to use. This is why transfiguration is the second most valuable bit of magic. But it was much more exhausting then potions because it required a lot of mental strength. So I took a nap before I set out to find a village. I hoped there would be some wizards that had access to medicine or a floo network.

When I woke up it was almost nightfall. I had no idea what day it was. I might have slept through the night the first time I passed out and only slept for a few hours during my nap. Or vice versa. But I couldn't start exploring a forest in the dark. But it was dangerous for me to sleep at night because of animals. So I used Lumos to provide some like and just sat against my tree. I was ravenous at this point.

When the sun started to rise, I got up. Sharp movements caused extreme pain in my leg but I must have been right about nerve damage because it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I began hobbling on the uneven forest floor in the direction of the sun.

I spent two days in the forest. I ate some plants. They must not have been poisonous because I'm still alive, which is a shock because I completely guessed. They also didn't hold much nutritional value. And they tasted horrible. But it was enough to keep me going.

At the end of the second day, I reached a small town. I had no idea if it was a muggle or wizard town. Or a combination. I walked into an open shop with a plan.

"Excuse me, do you know where the nearest hospital is? I splinched." I asked someone who worked there.

"Splinched? What does that mean?" Muggle. damnit.

"Oh sorry, I'm American. I mean I fell over and cut my leg." Boom. They know nothing about America.

"Oh, why didn't you just say so! You Americans are so weird." I chuckled politely. "There's a small doctor's office just down the road. That looks like a nasty cut with that many bandages."

"It is. thanks for the directions." With that I hobbled back out into the street. I was careful to change the blood soaked bandages before going into town so I wouldn't arouse suspicion.

"Wait. I know what splinching is." Some stranger from inside the shop said, running after me. I looked them up and down. They seemed nice enough. And I was pretty desperate.

"You do? Tell me." I said.

"It's when you disapparate unsuccessfully and leave part of yourself behind. And apparating is when you twist around in a spot and move to another location. Like transportation." The stranger said. Alright, they passed.

"Do you have access to the floo network? Or some potions supplies?" I asked.

"Both, actually. Come with me."

I remembered then that the floo network is controlled by the ministry. And Voldemort controls the ministry. Does this person not know this or are they tricking me? I decided it's worth the risk to go with them. But I couldn't go straight to the Burrow. Maybe I should make a potion to help the injury then apparate to the Burrow. But the potion might not work anymore. I could go to St. Mungo's. Then I realized that since I worked there, Death Eaters would probably be patrolling the place.

"What do you know about the dark lord?" I very consciously chose the dark lord instead of You-Know-Who or Voldemort.

"Don't say that! Are you one of them?" The fear on their face was real. I decided it was alright to trust them.

"No. I swear" I showed them my left forearm and tapped it with my wand whispering revelio. Nothing showed up. They did the same. Clean.

I followed them to their flat. They brought out a cauldron and a bunch of potion ingredients. I started first with a wide-eye potion. That way I'll have enough focus to disapparate. I then brewed the potion that's supposed to help with splinching. It worked a little, but by now it was too late to fully repair the injury. Now was not the appropriate time to experiment. The stranger brought me food and tea. Normally, I would not drink this. But I was starving and dehydrated, so I didn't care.

Finally it was time to go. I turned to the stranger that had showed me more kindness that I ever thought possible. "I hope we meet again, when we feel confident enough in the world to share our names." Neither of us had in case the other turned us in. I had decided I would go to Bill and Fleur's new house. I feel bad for my upcoming intrusion, but I'm guessing the Burrow is being carefully watched. Same with the twins' store.
