The Party

Umbridge was a problem for the next day. Because tonight was the annual start of year party that seventh years hold at Hogwarts. My dorm mates dressed quickly and crept downstairs to meet the boys in the common room. We had told everyone we would gather snacks and refreshments for the party. All seventh years from all houses were invited, including any Slytherins that weren't complete and utter assholes. So like, four.

"Where do you think you all are going? It's past curfew." I knew that voice although I couldn't see the face.

"Hermione, it's fine. We're just going to the kitchens because we're hungry. We do it all the time" I told her. I knew she was going to be a pain this year.

"You can't go to the kitchens. That's breaking the rules. You should all return to your dorms."

I rolled my eyes. Petrificus Totalus. "Sorry Hermione, but it's tradition for all the seventh years to meet up on the first night of the last year. I'm sure you'll understand when you're older." I looked at her rigid body.  "That should wear off soonish. Have fun!" With that I walked out of the portrait hole, everyone else trailing behind me.

"Mags, that was badass" I heard Fred say.

"Putting a full body bind curse on a prefect. We knew you'd be a good friend." George added, with his hand over his chest. But what if I wanted to be more than friends?

Once we got all the food we made our way to the room of requirements. Everyone was already there. I was excited. I played a mix of muggle and wizard music dancing around with all the seventh years. Eventually things settled down and we started playing games. We played never have I ever, spin the bottle, truth or dare, all the classics like we had at Grimmauld place. Now it was time for seven minutes in heaven. We had all had a substantial amount to drink, having snuck up butterbeers and firewhiskeys from the kitchen. I had only had a small amount because I wanted to remember what happened next.

"All the boys put an item in the bag" I announced. "All right now who's up first?"

Each girl took turns drawing an item from the bag and going into the cupboard with the owner of the item. Some people came out disappointed, some sloppy, some angry, some content. It was a mix. I was just happy George hadn't been picked yet. Eventually, it was my turn. I picked up a biting doorknob and loudly exclaimed from the surprise. Chuckles arose in the crowd, but were quickly silenced when the owner of the doorknob announced who they were.

"That's mine" George said. I guess it was common knowledge he liked me, at least amongst the Gryffindors.

"Let's go then" I had never been this flustered. It was just a game after all. I had played it hundreds of times. It wasn't a big deal. I heard someone wolf whistle, probably Fred. I pretended to be annoyed as I walked with George to the closet, but I wasn't. I wasn't annoyed at all.

It was awkward in the cupboard. All those moments we had over the summer hung between us like a curtain. "We don't have to do anything if you don't want to" George said shyly. I liked seeing him like this. He was normally so confident and outgoing, but at times he turned really sweet and introverted. I took a deep breathe. Now or never.

"What if I want to?" I replied back. "George, there's something you should know. I like you. As in this is seven minutes in heaven and we wasted a minute of it already, so hurry up and kiss me."

"Really?" His chocolate eyes grew wide in shock "I-"

"Too slow" I said, grabbing his collar as I pulled him closer and began kissing him. He licked my bottom lip, asking if he could let his tongue in. I gladly let him. His arms were wrapped tightly around my waist, pressing me close to him. My hands were tangled in his hair. Eventually, our hands found their way under our shirts as his lips found their way to my neck. I moaned quietly when he hit my sweet spot.

All too soon, there was a knock on the door announcing that our time was up. We began straightening ourselves out, when I turned to him and said "we can talk about this tomorrow. For now, let's just enjoy the party." He nodded in agreement and walked out of the cupboard with me. Fred gave a suggestive look, which I saw George nod to. Fred smiled widely as I went to tell my dorm mates what just happened.

"Well...did you snog?" Katie asked.

A smile grew on my face. "Yes we did." My dorm mates all squealed.

"Are you two finally together?" Angelina asked me.

"Finally? We've only known each other for a year! What do you mean Finally"  I had only developed feeling for him this summer anyways. So it's not like we've been secretly in love with each other for years.

"Oh please, he's been in love with you since he saw you on the train last year" Angelina commented.

"And you were not so subtely checking him out on the train" Alicia added.

"The train ride was this morning!"

"Stop ignoring our questions, Mags. Are you two dating now?"

"I don't know. We decided it would be better to talk about that tomorrow." All my dorm mates started complaining about this before going off to find their side pieces. I decided to go to the dance floor. I made sure to stand real close to George, even dancing up on him a little. Even when we were apart, we glanced at each other often. And when we caught the other looking, neither of us looked away.

Throughout the night I took a million pictures for the start of our last year. At the time I didn't realize how often I would look back at them wishing things were always this simple.

"Mags, come with me" I heard George whisper in my ear.

"Why? we're supposed to go back to the dorms to get ready for the day."

"Shh, come on." George grabbed my wrists and started dragging me through the halls. Eventually we reached the astronomy tower. "Look"

I looked at the window and saw the sunrise. It was beautiful. The sky was turning a light blue, but at the horizon there was orange, pink, and purple blended together in a beautiful melody. "Wow." I turned to face George-"This is beautiful."

"I know" George's eyes never left my face. They glanced down to my lips and then we were kissing. I looked back out the window and moved so that my head was resting on his shoulder.

George snatched my camera out of my pocket and held it up to take a picture of us.

"Go out with me Mags. Please." George said as he played with my hair.

"Sure, George. I'd love to."

"Next Friday?"

"It's a date."
