AFTER ERICA HAD calmed Emma down by promising that Neal knew she loved him too because while Erica may have a deep-seated hatred for the man, there was no denying that he did love Emma and she loved him. Deciding it was best for the three of them to head back to the others, they said goodbye to Tinker Bell and left to find the others
When they arrived at Neal's cave, Erica looked around the cave and saw the child-like drawings and felt a pang of sympathy because while she may not have liked the man, no one should live in a place like that
"Woah, what's that?" Emma asked, pointing to the childlike scribbles
"It appears Neal marked his days trapped on the island" Killian informs the group
Emma jumped up onto the rock ledge to take a closer look at the markings and when a gasp falls from her lips, Erica raised an eyebrow and looked closer to see whether she could see what her twin was seeing and Emma looked between Erica and the scribbles "These look familiar to you?"
"Yeah" Erica breathed out, remembering all the times as a child when both of the twins every time they moved to a new foster home they would mark how long until they finally got out, the only difference was once Erica got accustomed to a place, she would often stop marking down the days but Emma would continue until she lost hope and then when they moved to a new place the cycle would begin again
"What are you talking about?" Mary Margret asked softly "What's wrong?"
Emma pointed to where the markings ended "Look here, Neal stopped counting"
"'Cause he got off the island" Mary Mary supplied hopefully
"He was here longer" Erica disagreed
David gave his daughters a puzzled look, not really knowing what the two of them were getting at "Then why would he...?"
"Because he lost hope," Emma tells him sadly, brushing her fingers over the chalk
"You got that from a bunch of scribbles?" Regina questioned, raising an eyebrow
"No, it's because what we used to do every time we were put in a new foster home, I used to count down the days until I got used to the place and Emma here used to count down the days until it seemed pointless" Erica told the group with a sigh
"God that sounds horrible" Gemma breathed, frowning
"You think the same thing's happened to Henry?" David frowned
Emma shrugs defeatedly "Pan said it would"
Erica reached out and touched her sister's shoulder "Hey. We will find Henry Em I promise"
"Yeah I know that, you know that, we all know that but Henry doesn't know that," Emma stated, fixing her sister in a stare and at that moment Erica could see the hurt shining in her eyes, the hurt over losing a child, something that the blonde police officer could never imagine, she didn't want kids -- she never did especially now that she knew the darkness was living in her veins, and while she loved Henry with all her heart she could never image loving her own child in that way
