Twenty Eight

"Lunch is on me, babe!" Kyndra smiled as we walked out of the school building. I smiled at her as she was wanting to take me out to lunch, with my choice of wherever I want to go. "So, you're dating now?"

I look over at her as we walk down the stairs, into the parking lot. I told her about Dylan and everything else that happened last night. I figured she needed to know since she was my best friend and I already told her almost everything.

"No. We're just.. together. Seeing where it goes."

"You're basically dating." She smiles. "That whole 'see where it goes' bullshit isn't real. You're seeing each other, kissing each other so you're dating."

I shook my head as I wondered why I even tell her anything.

"Where's Harvey?"

"Running late." She unlocked her car. "Said he was finishing up a test."

I nod as I was walking to the passenger side before seeing a car come into the parking lot then stop next to Kyndra's car.

Smiling, I knew exactly who it was. I walked around the car as he got out of his car then walked towards us.

"Hey, baby sis." James smiles at Kyndra. He looks at me and smiles. "Hey, Addy."

I slightly wave at him as he hands Kyndra a bag. "What's this?" She asks.

He also hands me one as well. "Brought you girls some lunch. Plus some drinks." He grabs some cans from his car.

Kyndra looks at him. "Since when?"

"Just thought since I was in town, I'll stop by and grab you some lunch."

I watch as Kyndra folds her bag up and smiles at him. 'Thanks, bro. How's life treating you?"

"Pretty damn good."

James is Kyndra's older brother. He moved to the city a few years ago to start his career. He's twenty five and already have his life in perfect harmony.

We hung out a few times, but it's been a few months. James is a really awesome guy, who's super nice and down to Earth.

"So, what's your plans for after school?" He crosses his arms as he leans on his car. "Where's Harvey?"

"He's finishing a test." Kyndra said. "Why do you wanna know what our plans are after school?"

He smiles at us. "Just wanna see if y'all wanna go hike down the abandoned railroad tracks. Only cool thing about this town is the weird shit that lurks through the shadows."

"Of course you're into all that." Kyndra rolls her eyes. "I don't know what it is with you and creepy shit."

"It's cool." He smiles. "Mom never let us go anywhere remember? She told us all kinds of things about this town."

I watched as they were talking about the things that happened here, which I knew some of but not a whole lot.

When we first moved here, I was too young to know so nothing really interested me.

"This railroad shit is crazy and I want to go check it out." He looks over at me. "You want to do that, Addy?"

I look over at Kyndra then smiled at James. "Of course. I'm down. I could use a little adventure."

"Ya'll are weird." Kyndra shakes her head. "I'm in too."

After a few moments, Harvey came walking towards us then fist bumped James. He told him about what we were talking about and Harvey instantly agreed on going there this afternoon.
