Nerve One Shot
Ever since you were young, you'd convinced yourself that you'd have that idyllic life – you'd meet some great guy and have all the normal motions and advances of a relationship.
And then Sam had appeared.
Sam was everything you never thought you'd fall for; a typical bad boy type that had a heart of gold, misunderstood, the whole leather jacket and motorbike vibe. But when you met him you couldn't come up with a reason as to why you shouldn't go head over heels.
Luckily for you Sam felt the same, but it hadn't been all daisies and rainbows.
Nerve was the tricky bit of your relationship though. The two of you had only been together for a month or so until Nerve started up again and Sam had trusted you enough to tell you about everything.
Of course, Nerve needed to be shut down, but it wasn't that simple, it was never going to be that simple.
What happened to Sam was a prime example of why Nerve wasn't a game you could do away with easily, it defended itself and took its own prisoners.
And so, at god knows what time of the morning you were trying to comfort Sam as he had another breakdown over your plans with Nerve.
"What if it doesn't work?" he questioned, his head resting on your stomach as the two of you lay in bed.
You sighed, running your hand over what little hair Sam had left. "We can't think like that Baby, you know that."
He groaned and tightened his grip over your thighs. "But it's gone wrong before," he stated. "So many other people have tried to get out of Nerve, and they've failed, they have ended up like me, like Ty and if this doesn't work you and Vee will end up the same too."
"But we're not just trying to get out of it are we? We are attempting to end it."
You knew that Sam was just nervous, that he was concerned that it would all be for nothing, but you could only be confident in the fact that your boyfriend and Ty had come up with something that would work.
"And if we end it, us and all of the other prisoners will be free."
Sam didn't say anything in response, he stayed silent for a few minutes, choosing instead to trace shapes over your bare thighs and comfort himself in the fact that you were present, and you were there.
The first time around, the first time he'd tried to get out of Nerve he'd lost, and he didn't know if he'd cope with it again.
"You're all I have left," he whispered, knowing you'd hear him. "That first time I didn't have you, I didn't have you to lose and now that I do, I know I can't go without you."
Your heart broke a little at the hurt in his tone and you really did understand why he was so scared; he had lost everything to the game before and it can't have been easy thinking that it could happen again.
"If this works, we'll be free," he told you. "And if it doesn't, we run."
