The Boys One Shot
The unfolded paperclip danced inside the padlock, a quick flick of Serge's wrist and the top popped open and he dove into the previously inaccessible trove, eager to reap the rewards of his hard word and life earned skill.
"I said you could show me with my lunch, not that you could eat it!" You slapped his hands away from the greasy breakfast sandwich and rescued it from his hungry hands. "So are you going to show me how to pick locks?"
"I might do." Serge shrugged and leant comfortably backwards in the rickety hardwood chair that sat in the dank basement. "To be honest it really depends what is in it for me. If it was worth my time, maybe half of that sandwich one would say, I might find it worthwhile passing down my skillset." Akin to a starving hawk he stared down the food which you had risked so much in rising to the surface to obtain. "But then again why would you need to know how to pick a lock with pretty much anything. It isn't like a corrupt crew of superheroes are eager to capture you, lock you away in a puppy crate and torture the ever living crap out of you until you fizzle up and die." He shrugged again, wrapped his scarf tightly around his neck and pushed himself up from the table.
"I will give you... a quarter of this sandwich and you can take anything you want out of my snack drawer."
"Pfft." Serge swayed his head in offense.
"I endangered my life to get this food, those motherfuckers are all over the city looking for us... looking for me! If you wanted something you should have got your lazy ass out of this dingy basement and got yourself something."
"Okay, okay." Serge took a hearty quarter of your sandwich. "This much of the damn sandwich and two things from your snack collection. Come on I'm starving here. I'm going to teach you something that could possibly save your life one day. Just think, for the low price of a packet of Reece's pieces and some Jolly Ranchers I could stop you from having your balls tickled by a rottweiler's teeth."
"Eh. I think I'll take my chances." You plucked the sandwich from his fingertips. "Go on, you can have the rest. You had better know what you're doing with that paperclip though."
