The Haunting of Bly Manor One Shot

Love was a complex thing. You couldn't really understand it or explain it, but it was an intense feeling that you were glad to now experience. Although you would never truly be able to understand it, you did know that you loved Jamie and you would do everything in your power to make her happy and keep her safe regardless of your own happiness or safety. You knew that was what you felt as love but you couldn't comprehend that she felt the same.

At first you thought that she loved you and there had never been anything that had outrightly made you think she didn't, but you couldn't help but doubt it. Jamie treated you like her world, she did everything to make you feel perfect but no matter how outwardly she tried to show you her love, you didn't think she actually did. It was certainly more on you though; you weren't a fan of yourself and struggled to see why anyone would love you, how anyone could love you.

You tried to keep it from Jamie though. You didn't want her to feel like you doubted her when it was certainly yourself at fault, but it didn't take a genius to see you curl within yourself whenever anything remotely romantic occurred.

Jamie had leaned in to kiss you and although you accepted it, you didn't put in nearly enough energy or emotion as your girlfriend did. She pulled away and cocked an eyebrow at you.

"What's wrong?"

You tried to lie to her and assure her you were fine, but she didn't buy it and repeated her words a sterner tone.

"Why don't you find someone else?" You asked.

Her expression dropped as she scanned your face to see if it would tell her where this kind of question was coming from.

"What do you mean?"

"You're perfect, why don't you find someone who Is perfect too?" You questioned. "You could have an amazing romance with your true love but for some reason you have settled for me. You could have anyone you want."

Jamie moved a hand to cup your cheek, offering you a gentle, loving smile.

"You're all I ever wanted," she smiled as she leaned in to press her lips to your cheek. "Believe me I know you can have the worst thoughts about yourself, but you need to trust that you are so greatly loved by so many people, and especially by me."

You accepted her arm wrapping around your waist, moving closer to her, into a warm embrace and rested your forehead to her shoulder, hoping that one day you could be happy in her love and she in yours.
