The Boys One Shot

A golden haze shadowed Annie's entire form as she burrowed her fists deep into the thick concrete blocks over and over again, each strike sent a hail of concrete shards hurtling towards the floor and left larger dents in the blocks than the last. The small maintenance basement of your apartment block was dark, dank, and otherwise incredibly grim but Annie's exuberant glow lit up every corner of the mossy cellar. You crept forward, sure that startling her would only result in something terrible happening to the both of you.

"What's gotten into you?" You asked as you fumbled around in your pocket for your phone. "I knew as soon as I heard about a power outage in the apartment block that you would be around somewhere. Your first week with the almighty Seven didn't quite live up to expectation?"

"Not..." She hurtled her fist into the block "quite!" Her hand broke clean through the block, tearing it in two as if it was a frail, dried log and her fist was the woodman's axe. She bent over herself, her hands planted sturdily on her knees as her chest ebbed and flowed with her series of deep, intentional breaths. "They're fucking assholes. You could say it went pretty poorly." Slowly the aura from around her began to fade.

"What do you mean? They're the Seven... saviours of the world, Earth's mightiest or whatever. They can't be assholes, they're the good guys. What did they do to you?" You asked as you pulled her back into a stand and brushed the thick concrete dust from her skin and she propped another thick block against the wall. "You should be careful, you're lucky it was only me that came down here. I'm sure the whole block can hear you down here." You hoisted the block forwards, something Annie could have done with effortless ease but if you could do anything to help Annie out you were going to do it.

"I don't really want to talk about it right now." She insisted. "Let me just be angry for a bit. If you want to be helpful bring me some more stuff to break and stand by the door, make sure nobody else comes in here."

"I'm here if you need me Annie, no matter what happened. If you want to talk about it I'm all ears, if you just want me to find stuff for you to break I'm good for that too." Annie smiled gratefully before her glow began to re-envelop her.
