The Wilds One Shot

Although when your new pet came into your home, you were beyond excited, you knew that your friend would be even happier about it. You didn't want to tell her until the animal was in your home, not wanting to get her hopes up if something led to the animal not coming into your care.

As soon as you got to school, you searched for Martha, wanting to tell her the good news, and likely agree to her visiting your home after school. You found her in the hall outside of her first period classroom, picking at her nails and trying to not make eye contact with any of the other students that were hanging around the room.

"Martha," you smiled.

"Hi," she responded, looking up from her hands.

"I have some great news," you said, joining her against the wall in the ever-growing high school crowd. "You're going to love it."

She raised an eyebrow at you, not sure what you were talking about, nor what could cause you such joy at the time. She was glad that you were happy, but it was hard to not be curious about it.

"My aunt has been fostering some rabbits that were found abandoned and one of them was pregnant. She had her litter, did great, had five healthy babies and one not so healthy one. He got an infection in his eye and had to have it removed and she couldn't find him a forever home, so my mum said we can have him. He turned eight weeks a couple of days ago and we've been working on our set up for him so that we could finally bring him home yesterday," you beamed. "He's the cutest little white and tan thing and he couldn't care less that he has one eye."

With every word you said, her smile grew, and she became happier and happier, not just for you but for being able to go home with you at some point to see it.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" She asked.

"He was so ill, I didn't want to get your hopes up if something bad happened, but his health is all for the better and the veterinarian doesn't think that any of it should affect him anymore," you explained. "But my mum is home with him today, to make sure he gets used to her, seen as I am very rarely away from him currently, but of course, you will want to get to know him too."

"Of course I do."
