The Boys One Shot

"Starlight, huh?" Trying your best to not seem like a creepy stalker you grabbed the attention of the wide-eyed, straight backed woman sat in the reception chair opposite. "Is this your first day here as well?" Your eager question was met with an excited nod as she waltzed across the reception floor to take her place in the empty seat beside you. Although you had been given strict instructions by Homelander to keep a close eye on the new recruit, you couldn't help but let her positive influence overwhelm you. "How did you make it up here?"

"I auditioned and got a phone call just a little bit later. Exciting isn't it, meeting the Seven... this crazy tower is just so different to everything I'm used to back home." Her eyes sat full of hope. Your days as a vigilante crawling along the underbelly of the city had led you to some dark times, a lot of stuff that you should never have seen now plagued your memory, but looking into her eyes let you know that everything was going to be okay with the world. It was easy to tell just from her fresh face, the proudness with which she held herself and the kindness of her curled rose lips that she was a true hero, a super that had found their way into the world with nothing but a willingness to help people and a determination to do the right thing. "How did they find you? I thought they were only after one person to replace Lamplight?"

"Yeah..." With nervous fingers you ran your hands through your hair and ruffled the soft peaks of hair that had gathered. "I think I'm just here for like a backup role kind of thing just in case someone get's injured or has a family emergency or something. What do you think of the seven?"

"Obviously, they just... they just inspire me. I look up to them and I just want to be like them. I want to help people and protect people..."

"Starlight!" A booming voice called from the end of the foyer.

"Looks like you're up." You shot Homelander a subtle nod as Starlight threw her jacket over her shoulders and without hesitation marched assertively towards him. "Try not to worry too much, I'm sure you'll do great!" You called across the waves of people as she disappeared into the crowd.

"You too!" She quietly shouted back.
