Outnumbered One Shot

After having been with Jake for well over a year it was fair to say that you were used to being at his house.

With your parents working as much as they did, Sue and Pete knew that you'd be at theirs pretty much whenever you could – not that they ever had a problem with it of course, an extra pair of hands was always welcome.

As it was the weekend, you had told Jake you'd be going over that Friday evening to spend the weekend with him and his family.

So naturally you were expecting him to be there when you got there but he wasn't.

"Has he not said anything to you?" you questioned Sue as she brought you a cup of tea to the kitchen table.

She shook her head, sitting down next to you. "He told us he would be home before you got here but we've tried ringing and we can't get in touch."

You rolled your eyes. "Why is it the one time he is supposed to be here he isn't."

She laughed, placing a hand on your arm. "He'll be home soon love; don't you worry."

Her words did comfort you slightly, as it was unlike Jake to just not be home when he said he would be, but two hours went, and he still was nowhere to be seen.

You'd tried calling him, texting him and you'd rang a couple of his friends too to see if they had heard anything from him.

The general consensus seemed to be that Jake's phone had died whilst he was out and that's why no one could get in contact with him and vice versa.

Eventually though, 2 and a half hours after Jake was supposed to have been home, he walked through the door.

He dropped his keys in the bowl and walked into the kitchen with his bag slung across his shoulder and his hands in the air.

"Before you start yelling at me, I brought flowers," he told you as he handed you your favourites.

Your heart melted a little at the gesture, but you were still annoyed at him. "Do you know how bloody worried I've been?!"

He sighed, dropping his bag and crouching down next to your chair. "Baby I am so so sorry, I went to the library after uni to get some references and lost track of time and by the time I came out my phone had died," he rushed out his explanation as he placed his hands on your knees.

"And yet you grabbed me flowers?"

He smiled somewhat sheepishly. "I thought they'd make you less mad at me."

You sighed but smiled again at the flowers. "I'm not annoyed at you love; I was just really worried."

He nodded and then looked over at Sue who was stood near the kitchen island. "I'm sorry Mum, I didn't even think about my phone dying."

She smiled at him and then at you before heading to the living room.

"I really am sorry Baby," he told you again when he turned back to you. "I wish I hadn't worried you."

You sighed before placing your hand against his cheek. "Just be here on time next time, okay?"

He chuckled, moving his head to kiss your palm. "Never want to miss a minute with you."
