Venice, Los Angeles, California 2002

Sitting peacefully at the shore watching the waves come in and out, I can't help but get lost in a daydream to how this used to be my happy place. Every since I was a kid my parents would argue nonstop so I would just sneak out my window running straight here. Of course they wouldn't tell they'd be too busy invested into themselves and winning the last word that their daughter was missing but in the end I reluctantly had to return home. Being interrupted I hear someone calling to get my attention

"I'm so sorry but do you mind watching my baby for me please I really have to use the bathroom. It'll only take a minute or so I promise" some lady who looks irritated and stressed, why not help out right women gotta stick together anyways this day and age

"Sure no problem go ahead" taking the baby carefully I get lost in its precious eyes and cute button nose

"Look at you, you're so cute. I bet when you get older you're gunna be one mean heartbreaker" playing with his chubby cheeks, as I'm studying his face some more he has the cutest baby smile I've ever seen well almost seen but who's cares babies are adorable

Upon being occupied with him I don't notice the mother returning from the bathrooms watching me with a smile

"Oh sorry, here's your baby" trying to hand him back I see her sit down with me instead not rushing to grab him

"Have kids of your own ?"

"I have two yeah, twins to be exact. My pride and joy" smiling at the thought of my babies and the day they were born only to have my smile fade

"What's the matter ? You don't seem too happy bout it" she presses on genuinely concerned

"Under the circumstances how they got into this world yeah, but I wouldn't regret them ever. But I don't want any pity from you or anyone so no offense but I'm fine..." waiting for her to tell me her name

"Perla, and you are ?"

"Y/n, nice to meet you and your baby what's his name ?" Looking back down at the smiling little boy

"London, nice to meet you too. But if it's okay to ask is the father in your kids' life ?"

"Nope, but as far I'm concerned I'm kinda glad he isn't" laughing at the irony in that statement

"Ooh I love a strong independent woman, do tell me"

"I just don't think he was ready for responsibility, he loved to party and what not plus he was really focused on writing music so I left him before I could even tell him. Nowadays I don't know where he is or what he's doing I just don't care really"

"Wow, so where are your kids now are they around" she looks all over before looking back to me

"They're visiting my grandparents right now so this is some me time" seeing London starting to fall asleep in my lap

"Is there at least a fatherly figure in their lives ?"

"My longtime bestfriend is the closest they'll get to a father figure until I'm ready to get back into dating, so I think that counts"

Finally handing her back her son I get up off the sandy beach and dust myself off

"It was nice talking to you Perla but I gotta get going" waving turning to leave she calls for me handing me a piece of paper

"Give me a call sometime and we'll have a girls day and who knows maybe we can have a play date with your twins"

Smiling at the offer I wave goodbye taking off to my car
