So, here they are sitting in the waiting room of an urgent care not even a week after they've been reunited. "I don't know if I can do this," Meagan tells Amethyst, her hands shaking. "You got this and matter what the outcome is. I will be here for you." She reassures her. "No, I can't do it," Meagan whispers to her and grabs her hand as she sees the nurse walk to her. Amethyst gently rubs her hand. "Just breath, take it second by second."She whispers back. "Meagan?" The nurse says "You can come back now." She tells her.
Meagan looks at Amethyst and then back at the nurse. "Would it be okay if she came back with us?" Meagan asks. "Of course, whatever makes you feel comfortable." The nurse replies with a smile. Amethyst gets up and walks back with them to the examination room. Meagan smiles to herself, she isn't used to her requests being taken seriously let alone excepted.
She explains the situation to the nurse and watches her write everything down. "Okay, thank you. I'll need you to go to the bathroom, here's a cup. I'm sure you know the drill. We just got to make sure everything is okay." The nurse tells her handing Meagan a cup then shows her where the bathroom is. After Meagan is done, she opens the bathroom door and hands the cup back to the nurse. "Thank you dear, you can go back to the room and the doctor will be right with you." She tells her.
Meagan walks into the room and sits down next to Amethyst, Her heart feels like it's going to explode from nervousness at this point.
"She said the doctor will be here shortly." That is all Meagan could say. "You got this. It will be okay, maybe not today but someday it will be." Amethyst tells her, placing her hand on Meagan's knee but this time Meagan doesn't flinch. Instead, she relaxes and looks up at Amethyst with tears forming in her eyes, "I'm scared. What if I have an STD or something and they think I'm a slut! What if I am pregnant?" She says wiping a tear from her face. "You have every right to cry. Also, I'm sure they see patients with STDS daily, it doesn't phase them and if it does, I will throw hands." Amethyst tells her. Meagan places her head on her friend's shoulder and grabs her hand, Breathing in and out trying not to pass out. Time seems to drag on and on and on some more before the door opens. Both of their hearts are practically beating out of their chests at this point in time. "Well, it looks like you are pregnant." The doctor tells them. Silence overtakes the room. "About 8-9 weeks along," The doctor says breaking the silence. "I can take you to get an ultrasound or let you think about your options." She tells them.
Meagan looks at Amethyst for support. "Take your time, it's your choice," Amethyst tells her. Meagan leans over and whispers in her ear, "I want to keep it."
Amethyst kisses the top of her head, "Sounds good to me." She tells her.
So, Meagan tells the nurse she would like an ultrasound, they all go over to the ultrasound room and Meagan lies down.
Meagan grabs her friend's hand again as the doctor finds the heartbeat. "There is your baby!" The doctor tells Meagan.
Meagan looks up at Amethyst who is in awe of the little blob on the screen. Even though they haven't seen each other in years, things feel so right. They both have changed but are also still so much the same, just with extra trauma added along the way.
The appointment ends so, Amethyst and Meagan go back home. "Wow. I can't believe that just happened." Meagan says in disbelief while walking through the door.
"Yeah, I guess we aren't little kids anymore are we?" Amethyst says, referring to the first time they met.
They both walk inside and sit on the couch in complete shock, just staring at the ultrasound pictures, "You have a little baby inside you!" Amethyst says, putting her hands on Meagan's stomach. "Yeah, I sure do," Meagan says and smiles up at her. "Ami, can I ask you something?" Meagan asks.
Amethyst nods her head "Of course love, you can ask me anything at any time." She tells her. "I know, I know this isn't your baby but I was wondering if you wanted to help me out with it? Maybe co-parent with me? That probably sounds stupid since we aren't even dating anymore and haven't since like the 8th grade and I promise it's not because of money, I have money." Meagan rambles until Amethyst interrupts, her face beaming with joy. "I would love to! Are you sure?" She asks. "Yes! I am more than one hundred percent sure Ami!" She says reassuring her.
Amethyst places her hand on Meagan's stomach again and puts her head close and says, "Hi little one! I'm your other mama wait, can I call myself that?" She asks.
Meagan laughs "Yes, yes you sure can." She tells her. They sit for a moment just enjoying each other's company before a thought crosses Meagan's mind. "Want to know something?" Meagan asks. "Of course, what is it?" Amethyst asks in response. "Well, growing up I was told abortion was wrong so that's another reason why I am keeping the baby. I feel so bad for putting you through this but, I don't think I could deal with the shame of yet another sin." She tells her. "Meagan, I hope you know that I do not resent you in any way, shape, or form. You do what you need to do to cope and I will be there for you without a second thought." Amethyst replies. Now, Meagan's world starts to come together in a weird sort of way. It's defiantly not how she thought her life would be at 18 but maybe she needed to be broken to become stronger. Maybe this baby will be the "missing piece." not only in her life but also in the court case regarding Ryan. There is no doubt the baby is biologically his so, maybe the DNA will help the case. Time will tell but for now, she's enjoying the feeling of security she feels right now.
