Chapter 20

-Rachel pov-
It's safe to say I'm nervous today. It's the first appointment for the baby and I'm scared. The last one was for the testing of my baby. I look to my right and left at my girlfriends. Santana is reading a magazine while Lucy files her nails. I look at both of them confused as I switch between them.

"I-I-what's going on?" They both look at me worried "Since when do you read and you do nails?"

"May nails were too long and I didn't want to accident scratch you or her" Lucy hands the file to Santana who hands the magazine over "And Santana was daydream while staring at the magazine"

"I couldn't find out the damn puzzle one time!" Santana pouts and looks away "When's this appointment? I wanna get back to school"

"So you don't wanna be here with me?" Santana goes to speak and I chuckle "I'm joking"

"Why do you both wanna gang up on me?!" She narrows her eyes and growls "What do you want?"

"I just wanted to ask if you were ok" I look up and see Carol Hummel standing there nervously "I-I don't wanna cause any issues...my boys have done that enough"

"You aren't the issue" I put a arm around Santana and she starts calming down "I'm sure it's been terrible for you with everything that's happened"

"Not just me" She sighs and looks at the ground upset "Burt is the one here actually"

"His heart?" She nods and we all frown "I'm sorry to hear that"

"None of you have anything to apologize about" She gives us a small smile "You'll make a great family for that baby"

"You know" I look at my girlfriends who both nod "Finn blew his chances at seeing the baby and Kurt has too but...if you and Burt wanna see them when they are born then you can"

"Really?" I nod and soon I'm pulled into a hug "Thank you!"

"You're welcome Carol" I wrap my arms around her "I think Burts waiting for you"

"She can have as much time as she wants" Burt walks over with a small smile "It's nice to see you girls doing well after...everything that happened"

"It's nice to see you too Burt" I look at Carol with a smile before looking at him again "I just told Carol and I'd like to tell you that you may see this baby when it's born even though Kurt and Finn have blown their chances"

"Really?" I nod and he smiles wide "Thank you"

"No problem Burt" My name gets called my hands get grabbed by my girlfriends "Bye Carol and Burt!"

They wave goodbye and we head to the nurse. I we do normal procedure and I get sat on a table. Everything is going better than I thought it would. Maybe I need to work on not worrying so much.

"Rachel Berry?" I look at the door and see a doctor standing there "Uh I'm doctor Chavez! You wouldn't know me but I know you! You're amazing!"

"Thank you!" I look at me girlfriends with a smirk "At least someone says it"

"I'm rooting for your trouble tones group at sectionals" The doctor walks over to the table and grabs the equipment "Man I can't believe I'm going to be Rachel berry's Doctor!"

"How did you find out about me?" He looks at me confused "You seem to know my talent"

"My wife is a big music nerd and made me go to a competition last year...I need you to hold your shirt" I hold up my shirt as he continues on and puts the gel on my stomach "I'm doing this cause the person that called me said they wanna see if I can find the heartbeat"

"That would be me" Lucy pushes you her glasses nervously "I had to wait a while but I heard it's possible"

"Quinn Fabray is here too!" The Doctor smiles wide "I have to get your photo after this for my wife!"

"Am I really that bad of a singer?" We all look at Santana who's pouting again "I thought I was good! I did sing Valerie!"

"Wow you have a nice support group Rachel" I jump when he puts the machine on my stomach "Sorry! I forgot to warn you!"

"It's fine" I look at the screen just to see black and white nothing "Wheres the baby?"

"Right here" he points to a small blob "let me hit the sound to see if there's a beat"

He pushes a button and silence fills the room. We wait a few minutes and I sigh when there's no sound. He goes to push the button again when there's a faint sound. He looks at the screen as the beat starts up more.

"Is that" I look at Chavez with tears in my eyes "Is that my baby?"

"Yes mam" He smiles "That is your baby's heartbeat"

I look at the girls and see tears falling down their faces. We all smile as the beat still fills the room. That's my baby's heart beat. That's my baby in there living.

"Now" I look at the doc "Would you like a copy?"

-Time skip-Shelby pov-
I'm not a happy camper right now. The girls never showed up to school and I had a important thing to talk about. We still need to figure out music choices and dances! I park the car and get out angrily.

I open the door and hear the tv going. Oh HELL no! They did not skip school to watch tv! I walk in and see Judy and Fran watching the screen with them as it goes black. They supported them skipping?!

"What the hell is going on here?!" Everyone looks at me confused "I needed you three in class! We were supposed to be going over songs and dances! What was so important that you missed it?!"

"Mom calm down" Rachel grabs my hand and I finally see the tears in her eyes "Sit down!"

"This better be good" I sit down where Rachel was and Santana pushes play "It's just white and black"

"It's my ultrasound from today" I feel guilt build up inside since I forgot that was today "Listen"

I do and a beat slowly fills the room. I feel my heart stop as the beat keeps going stronger and stronger. I feel my tears fall down as the blob moves just a little bit at a time.

"I-is that my grand baby?" Rachel nods and let's out a mixture of crying and laughing "That's my grand baby!"

I pick Rachel up and pain her around. My grand baby has a heart beat! They actually have audible heartbeat right now! I sit Rachel down and frown.

"I'm so sorry I forgot and got mad!" I look at the screen as it goes black "I forgot about my own grandchild"

"You've been stressed out" Rachel moves my head to look at her "It's ok mom"

"I love you sweet pea" I put a hand on her stomach and smile "I love you too my other sweet pea!"

"We ran into Burt and Carol too" I look up at Rachel and she just smiles "I told them they could see the baby if they wanted but not Finn and Kurt"

"You are so easily forgiving baby girl" I pull her into a hug "It's a Corcoran thing"

"Speaking of Corcoran things" I let go of Rachel to fully look at her "I wanna be adopted by you and become a Corcoran"

"Really?" She nods and I'm hugging her all over again "This has turned my day around for the better!"

"I think we should celebrate" Judy stands up smiling "Fran invite over Emma and she can celebrate with us!"

Fran nods and that's how we spend the evening. We celebrate Rachel's baby and her wanting to become a Corcoran. I look at Rachel with the two girls and can't help but see the love when they are near each other. They complete each other.

"You ok?" I look over at Judy "You seem spaced"

"Just thinking" I put my head on her shoulder and look at the girls "Life's good isn't it?"

"It's getting better everyday" She kisses my forehead "It'll get better when the little one gets here too"

I nod and get closer to her. I smile as I fit so well into her side. We meld together amazingly. It's the dream I've wanted for so long.

It's even better than I ever dreamed it would be.
