"Your godfather?" Lucy asked, "why would Sirius Black be writing to me?"
"That's my question," Harry thought aloud, "do you still have the letter?"
"Yeah," Lucy nodded, "it's in my dorm, hold on." She got up from her seat on the couch and sprinted up the staircase to her dormitory, ignoring the aching soreness in her legs.
The dorm was empty, Ginny was out with her boyfriend trying to spend the last couple hours of Valentines with him and Mary and Isla were Merlin knows where.
Lucy torn through her trunk in search for the letter, it was tucked away in one of her books.
She went to leave but the ring on her nightstand caught her eye, she hesitated before grabbing it and stuffing it in her pocket.
"I got it!" She held the green envelope up for Harry to see.
"I got a letter he sent me," Harry held up an identical green envelope, "to compare handwriting."
They sat on the floor in front of the coffee table and laid both pieces of parchment flat besides the other.
"It's definitely from Sirius," Harry concluded. The handwriting was identical, the same unruly, cursive letters appeared on both pieces of parchment, "may I?" He gestured to the letter.
"Go ahead," Lucy nodded.
"Thanks," Harry said, grabbing her letter, reading it quickly.
"There was something else in the envelope?" Harry shot Lucy a quizzical look.
"Yeah," Lucy breathed, grabbing the ring out of her pocket, she held it out for the older boy to see.
"Blimey," Harry scratched his head, "why'd Sirius send you an engagement ring?"
"I'm assuming my parents are dead and he was a friend or family member of sorts," Lucy said, "I just don't know how he'd know my parents."
Harry and Lucy made eye contact and fell silent, they were very aware of their identical emerald eyes.
"You don't think..." Harry started.
"No," Lucy shook her head, "it would make no sense, the timeline doesn't add up, I was adopted in August."
"My parents died in October," Harry mumbled, "when's your birthday?"
"May 19th," Lucy said, "we're what...nine...ten months apart?"
"That's not impossible..." Harry's face screwed up.
"Not impossible but highly unlikely," Lucy said.
"You're right," Harry shook his head, "but I can't shake the feeling that this involves both of us."
"Well if we were related," Lucy felt ridiculous even saying it, "it would have to be on your mum's side, does she have any siblings? Cousins?"
"As far as I know it was just my mum and my aunt, but to be honest I don't really know too much about my family, but I think Sirius had a brother that died a while ago, maybe that's a possibility?"
Lucy nodded, "maybe, well it's clear either way, Sirius knows how I fit in to this mess, can we just write him and ask?"
"I don't know if that's a smart idea," Harry shook his head, "the mail is being monitored and intercepted."
"Can you do the fire thing again?" Lucy suggested.
"Last time Umbridge nearly got him," Harry groaned.
"So we're stuck?" Lucy leaned against the couch.
"Pretty much," Harry sat back besides her, "we can go to Dumbledore."
