The New Normal

I love the excitement you all feel for this book. I have so many plans that i can't wait to share with you all. Here is the first chapter enjoy.

It's easier to give up when things get hard. It would have been easier when my heart was shattered to go back to my old ways and lose myself but life had a different plan for me. Life thought I needed to be challenged because losing my fiancé to the Speed Force wasn't enough. I needed to be thrown a giant curveball that will forever change my life. I guess I never was one to give up when things got hard no matter how much I wanted to be.

"Harder." I order as Damian comes at me again and I easily block his punches. "Again." I order and he yells in frustration.

"This is not fair. You are cheating." He yells at me.

"I'm not cheating." I assure him.

"There is no way you can..."

"Can what? Block the obvious punches that you keep giving me? Damian this is just supposed to be an exercise." I remind him.

"When can I go out and do some real damage?" He asks me.

"You're not going out."

"What?" He throws one of his knives at me and I easily catch it.

"You're night fighting crime like some vigilante."

"My father..."

"If you say that sentence one more time I will personally ship you off to Siberia!" I threaten him.

"You can't do that!" He argues with me.

"Your father, my brother he...he left you in my care. And I still need to find you an acceptable school." I look over the schools in Central City to send Damian to.

"I'm not going to school. I will wait here for father to come back and..."

"Damian, your dad was very clear. He wants you to live a normal life. One that involves you going to school." I remind Damian as he goes to spare with the punching bag.

"I don't understand why father left me with you if you were just..."

"I'm pretty sure we talked about you limiting your insults at me."

"There has to be a better person to..."

"Believe me, I asked your dad and he said there was no one else. You think this is how I wanted to live my life? I...I didn't ev..." I stop as I see the hurt look on Damian's face. "I...I didn't mean that I..."

"No, you did. You didn't know about me. Why would you? My own father didn't even know about me and the moment he did he...he drops me off at your door and..."

"I can't make excuses for my brother he..." I bend down so I can look at Damian. "I wasn't prepared to take over caring for you but...I'm happy that you're in my life."

"You're lying." Damian argues with me.

"No this time I'm telling the truth." I state to him. "This is not how our lives were supposed to be but...we're going to make the best of it." I assure Damian.

"I...will he ever come back?"

"I have no idea but I know one thing. I'll always be here for you." I know better than most that Damian doesn't respond to affection as most children would. I mean he was raised by Talia al Ghul. He's never going to be normal but here's hoping I can give him the proper life that Bruce so desperately wanted for him.

"Can we spare again? I...I need to let out some anger." Damian asks and I smile.

"I'll make it even better." I wrap a blindfold over my eyes and hold one hand behind my back. "Let's make it interesting." I state to him and Damian chuckles at me.
