DRACOS POINT OF VIEW

For the first time in my life, I didn't know what to do. Was I actually being selfish for making sure she was safe? Was her happiness or safety more important? I didn't know.

"Can I have some time to think about it?" I asked her. She sighed. "Sure." She said. "Can we just stay like this for a while?" She asked me. She sunk lower into the bed so she was lying down. I laid down next to her and wrapped my arm around her waist. "It's not the same." I said. She nodded. "I know. But it's better than nothing."

We laid there silently for a while. "You know I only broke up to protect you. Don't you?" I asked, breaking the silence. "I know. But I-I don't care that you're a deatheater, I knew what I was getting myself into." She replied. "Then why? Why would you knowingly risk your entire future?" I questioned her. She shrugged. "I think being happy is more valuable than being alive. That's why I'm making you choose." She said. "Princess- I want you to be happy more than anything." I replied. She turned around to face me. "Then that means your motives were incredibly selfish." She prodded, raising an eyebrow.

When I didn't answer, she sighed in disappointment. "Look Draco. Here's the deal. Either I'm in your life, or I'm out of it. Choose." She demanded. "You said I could have time!" I said defensively. "You've. Had. Time. Months in fact, to think about this. We've talked about this together now, so choose!" She replied.
"Y/N, I just- I can't risk your life to be happy. Your life. It's too valuable." I said.

YOUR POINT OF VIEW

"Wait. What?" I asked in disbelief. I got out of his bed quickly. "Y/N, I'm sorry. I wished it didn't have to be this way. I just can't risk your life." He said. He was crying already. He seemed to only cry when he hurt me or when I hurt him. I felt tears stinging my eyes, but I blinked rapidly to push them away. I don't know why I was expecting a different response. "Well then. You've made your choice." I said shakily. I walked briskly out of his room, and past Hermione. "What happened Y/N?" I heard her ask me as I walked away. I ignored her and caught the next train to Hogwarts.

I walked to the Slytherin common room, looking for Pansy and Blaise. "Hey Y/N! How was Draco doing?" Asked Pansy when I walked in. At the sound of his name, my heart shattered a bit more. I started breaking down. Pansy rushed to me and grabbed me gently by the elbow. "Y/N? Are you okay?" She asked. I wiped some of the tears away before new ones sprang out. I shook my head no violently. "W-we b-broke up." I said between hiccups and sobs.

A nurse popped her head in the room. "You have a visitor." She said before leaving. In replacement, walked Pansy. "Oh hey Draco. How're you doing?" She asked. "I've been better." I replied. "Alright. Now that that's out of the way..." she said, walking briskly over to me. I expected a hug, or a "get better", but instead I was greeted with a slap. "WHAT THE HELL?!? ARE YOH INSANE?" I yelled. "Draco FUCKING Malfoy. I told you that you were being selfish. But you just had to do it! Huh? You really had to end things because you think her miserableness is more important than her happiness?" She asked.

"You're twisting my words! I never said that!" I said defensively. She chuckled and said "okay." Before slapping me again. "Hey! You know this isn't going to be easy for me either. Right?" I asked. "Fuck you Draco. I thought you could actually care about someone else for once. But I guess shame on me for believing that." She replied. "And you know what's worse? You actually led her on for MONTHS, knowing that you weren't going to amount to anything besides friends and ex's." She continued. "Shit." I muttered under my breath. "CONGRATULATIONS YOU FUCKING DUMBASS!" She yelled before walking out of the room.

I stood up, and rubbed my neck. "Oh. GODRIC!" I yelled while punching the wall. "Why do I mess everything up?" I asked myself.

YOUR POINT OF VIEW

I moved into Pansy's room, since it seemed wrong to stay in Draco's room for the rest of the year. I got my trunk and took out all of Draco's hoodies which I had stolen and placed them neatly on his bed, along with other things I had taken.

A couple days later, I was released from the hospital. I wasn't exactly looking forward to  Hogwarts as much as I thought I would. I trudged up to the Slytherin common room. "Draco." Pansy said, without looking up from her book. "Oi mate. Glad you're doing better." Said Blaise, hugging me awkwardly. "Erm-thanks." I replied. I walked up to my dorm, expecting that Y/N had moved out already. Which she did. On my bed, I saw a pile of my old hoodies, which now were stained with the smell of her perfume. I went through the pile and started putting the sweatshirts back in my closet. After I put away the last one, I saw something small and gold that she had left.

Once I realized what it was, I stopped breathing and let myself start to cry again. It was the locket that I had given her for Christmas last year. I opened my locket and saw a younger Y/N and I, together. Happy. I made the wrong fucking choice. I closed the locket carefully and shoved it in the back of my drawer. I got out a piece of parchment and a quill and started to write.
