AU/Prompt: Your OTP are strangers and go skiing but get stuck on the chair lift with each other

TW: Panic/Anxiety Attacks

Kurapika POV

It was cold out today. But that didn't matter. I like skiing, it's fun. I never have anyone to go with so I'm always on the chair lift with a stranger. Not that enjoyable, especially when they're talkative. But today the person I was sitting by didn't talk at all. He didn't even face me. I'm not all for talking but it sort of offended me. He could at least say something.

"Hi," I said with a small wave. "Hello," he responded but didn't turn to me. He just looked out the trees. I shifted awkwardly. "Do you like trees?" I asked. "I think it's interesting how the pine trees don't lose their leaves in cold weather." He glanced at me, showing as little face as possible. "I guess so," was his response.

This sucks. It's nice to get someone that will talk. But not talk too much. And I don't like it when someone decides to not make conversation at all. It was a little rude. From where we were it could take at least ten minutes for us to get to a low enough spot to jump off. Some light conversation might be nice.

I took a deep breath as the chair lift began to move. I swung my legs, holding on to my ski equipment. I pulled my hat over my hair and ears. I liked my hat. It was pink, matching my coat. It didn't matter if I was a guy, the pink complimented my blond hair. I look like a girl, anyway.

The chair lift continued to move, Some people had jumped off already. But whatever his name is and I were still too high up. As we got to one of the poles, the chair rocked. I always hated when the chair would pass a pole. It moved the chair in a way that made me anxious. My shoulders tensed as the chair rocked again.

The man next to me looked over. "Are you alright," he asked. I nodded, "Fine. Just the rocking makes me jumpy." I looked behind us. We had been long past the pole. There was no way the bump was caused by that. "Aren't the rocks usually caused by the poles," I asked. The man tilted his head. "Have you been here before," he asked. I shook my head.

The man turned back to the trees, resting his chin on his hand. There was another bump before the chair came to a complete stop. I looked down. Still too high up. We've been riding for five minutes. How tall was this hill anyway? It felt more like a mountain.

I gulped and tried to breathe. My heart began to beat faster in my chest and my hands were shaking. We're never going to get off. Either that or we're going to fall. Both options were terrible. Ha, great, now I'm having a panic attack over something so small. I would laugh but I couldn't. I would much rather puke.

"Close your eyes," the man beside me spoke. His voice was calming and reassuring. I listened to him and closed my eyes. "Good," he continued. "Now exhale through your mouth." I did so. "Inhale through your nose for four seconds. After that hold your breath for seven seconds and exhale on eight. And repeat until you feel better."

I listened to what he said and repeated it. Soon enough I controlled my breathing. "Are you feeling better," he asked. I nodded and opened my eyes. "Th-thank you," I replied. He smiled. "You're welcome," he replied. "I just wanted to help." I smiled at him. "You helped a lot," I said. "How did you know what to do?"

The man tapped his fingers against the rim of the chair. "I'm a doctor," he replied. "I was taught how to handle those kinds of things." Now that he was facing me, I could see that he was rather handsome. His eyes were dark brown, the same as his hair which was cut short. His skin was tan for it being winter.

"My name is Kurapika," I said. "What's your name doctor?" He gave me a puzzled look before replying, "Leorio. My name is Leorio." I smiled at him. "Nice to meet you," I said sticking out my hand. He looked at my hand and paused. Then he took it. And he shook my hand. I think he's going to be my friend.
