When the TV shorts out, Marva Lynn tells the kids the story of how she and Nolan first met. The setting is a flashback to 1935, when they were in their kindergarten year. Nolan's friends Leo Stang, Delbert Haag and Florian Blonigen were so shy to see Marva Lynn. Although Nolan's twin brother Wilbert is the meanest.
Let's go all the way to January 1948, Nolan and Marva Lynn's senior year as did Wilbert. Wilbert was barely a responsible student, contrary to Wilbert's girlfriend Bernie Jesh, but when she attends a feminist rally and burns a brassiere on the school grounds, she is sent to detention for one day. Wilbert and Leo are sent there for three days for smoking cigarettes in the boys' restroom. Observing Bernie enter the detention room, Wilbert is smitten and wants to ask her to the prom, he tries to kill her and the teacher suspended Wilbert for seven weeks. Then Wilbert gets bullied by Florian and the teacher, although Wilbert was suspended for one week for showing his butt to his classmates.
As a next strategy, Wilbert pretends to be a French student so that he can be tutored by Bernie. It appears to be working, and when Wilbert asks Bernie to the senior prom, she agrees. However, when Wilbert reveals that he doesn't really take French, Bernie becomes irritated, slaps him and storms out of the house. Wilbert grabs the car keys, gets in his car, chasing Bernie's car, and her car bangs Wilbert's car, smashed into pieces and the car was on fire. A few hours later, the policeman came before school, he has announced that Wilbert is dead.
At the prom after Wilbert's funeral, Nolan and Marva Lynn are crowned prom king and queen and have their first dance.
Finally, Mick got a brand new TV for them, although Paul, Grady, Ed, Fran, Bill and Roy believes that the TV is good as new.
