Nolan attempts to build Marva Lynn a spice rack. While doing so, Marla Lynn sneaks up and hits Nolan on the head with a mallet. Marva Lynn is at first clueless as to why Marla Lynn would do such a thing, but Marla Lynn later sees an episode of the bad cartoon show, and tries to stab Nolan with a pencil. Marva Lynn immediately blames the show for Marla Lynn's actions, and she told Marla Lynn not to do it again with Nolan she goes to her home, and later bans Kevin and Lisa from watching the show as well. At school, Danny asked Kevin to watch the cartoon, and Kevin says no, in which Marva Lynn grounded him for not watching it. Marva Lynn writes a letter to the producers of the show asking them to tone down their violence and in response.

Marva Lynn forms an angry mob known as "St. Bonifacian for Nonviolence, Understanding, and Helping" (SBNUH) and forces the family to picket outside the studios. Unknown to her, Kevin and Lisa have been sneaking off to their friends' houses for not watch the shows, under the guise of Danny's sports or Lisa's friend Amy's 'making the most of their childhood years.'

At night, Marva Lynn told Kevin four times not to watch cartoons and she also told Kevin to go to bed early after dinner. Later, Mick uses the early remote control for the television and removes the channel. Although Paul, Grady, Ed, Fran, Bill and Roy were obnoxious about Kevin and Lisa's ban from television.

Marva Lynn's protest gains momentum and soon more people join the group and even start to picket The Herschel the Clown Show is shown. Meanwhile, Marva Lynn asked Nolan about removing the channel, it was Mick. Marva Lynn appears on a show, Smartline, where she confronts the chairman over the violence and suggests that concerned parents send letters to him. Plenty of letters to fill the mail trucks that line up down the street are sent to the studio, one letter says that the writer won't even stop if they see him crossing the street. He admits defeat and agrees to eliminate violence in the cartoon show. Marva Lynn finds the cartoon to be better, but Kevin, Lisa, and other kids across St. Boniface reject the cleaned-up show. A lengthy montage follows, in which the children of St. Boniface go outdoors and engage in various wholesome activities, leaving Herschel with no show. That night, Kevin and Lisa talk about their various outdoor activities while Marva Lynn listens happily. After the kids are excused from dinner, Nolan remarks it is good that kids are spending time outdoors and getting some fresh air and exercise.

Marva Lynn chooses to give up her anti-cartoon violence protest. The show immediately returns to its old form and the playgrounds and backyards are now empty as kids are once again indoors glued to their TVs. In fact, Fran un-removes the channel to watch the cartoon.
