Nolan and Marva Lynn throw a dinner party, but the kids are at Delphine and Walburga's house. Nolan gets drunk and humiliates himself by telling off total strangers, pulling a very juvenile practical joke on Paul involving a fly in an ice-cube and dancing while wearing a lampshade as a hat. Nolan then passes out on the living room floor and sleeps until the morning.
The next day, Nolan wakes up to Marva Lynn hitting the back of his head with the vacuum cleaner and she quickly pulls him into the car and turns the radio up. Marva Lynn asks Nolan if he remembered how he had behaved the previous night and Nolan slowly remembers all the regrettable things that he had done the night before. Marva Lynn continues by saying that she liked to believe she was a patient person and that there was no line Nolan could cross that would make her stop loving him. But remarks that last night proved her wrong. Nolan asks if they can put it behind them and go to church, but Marva Lynn tells him that she's going to church alone. At church, Marva Lynn enrolls the two of them in a weekend retreat of marriage counseling hosted by the reverend.
A few days later, Fran said that the originally babysitter died of the flu, and Delphine and Walburga were on vacation in Nicaragua, and Marva Lynn's other sister Marie is babysitting Kevin, Lisa and Marla Lynn. Meanwhile, Paul, Grady, Ed, Fran, Bill, Mick and Roy were at the bar watching baseball, and they were all exciting.
Meanwhile, Marie got a picture of Marva Lynn's 10th birthday in 1940. Also in this picture is Delphine, Walburga, Waldemar, Marie, Appolonia and Victor. However, brothers Hubert and Milton were stillborn in 1916, and 1923, respectively. However, Victor died in 1949, and Appolonia also died in 1950. When Nolan and Marva Lynn went back from the retreat, they were all happy about it.
