A blizzard hits St. Boniface, so Marva Lynn calls Nolan at Moe's Bar and tells him to come home right away. Nolan drives through the snowstorm and manages to wreck some of the cars, but he is survived from the wreck, in fact, an older man died of the wreck as well.
The insurance company pays the claim, and Nolan goes searching for a new car. Nolan takes the kids to car show to get a new car. At the show, the family looks at various exhibits showing the history of car companies and putting famous cars on display. While an uncomfortable Nolan and kids attempt to get away, Nolan bumps into the display for a large snowplow. A salesman talks Nolan into getting the snowplow because he can afford the higher payments by doing plowing jobs on the side. Nolan buys the snowplow and starts his snow plow business as "Mr. Plow". With the help of a late-night TV ad, Nolan's business is an instant success, winning the respect of the whole town. In recognition of the achievement, the mayor gives Nolan a key to the city.
Jim and Carl, who has been working at a succession of dead-end jobs, asks Nolan how they can be a success, so Nolan tells them to go out and be the best men they can be. The next day Jim and Carl has bought a bigger plow, and goes into business for themselves as "The Plow Kings." With Mary Wells' help, they created they own ad and steals all of Nolan's customers. The mayor then takes back the key to the city from Nolan and gives it to Jim and Carl. To get revenge, Nolan tricks them into going on a fake plow job at the top of a mountain. Jim and Carl accepts the job, much to Nolan's delight.
While Jim and Carl were gone up the mountain, Nolan begins to plow driveways again. However, the news later reports there has been an avalanche. Nolan, feeling guilty, sets out to rescue them, and in the end they agree to become partners. Although Paul, Grady, Ed, Fran, Bill, Mick, Roy, Fred, Karl and Milt saw them through the mountain and the construction guys grabs them and reconcile for life.
