Kevin skips the field trip to be with Herschel, an was suspended from school for one month.
Kevin continues his work as Herschel's assistant. Kevin soon learns that being a crew member is not all suspense and glamour, as he gets taken for granted by the cast and put upon to do many things for Herschel, who calls him at all hours. Kevin's name is only a small mention in the credits, so no one believes he helps Herschel. However, before Kevin decides to quit, Herschel offers to let him say one line in a sketch. Kevin messes up his lines and destroys all of the props on the stage. When the crowd's focus comes on him, he tries to get out of it, saying, "I didn't do it", which causes the audience to laugh and applaud. Seeing this, Herschel immediately uses Kevin and his "I didn't do it" catchphrase in later sketches, and eventually creates a franchise out of it.
As Kevin continues with his "I didn't do it" catch phrase, it begins to launch into all sorts of fame such as marketing, trinkets, and public appearances. Kevin overhears this and begins to fear that the fad will wear off, so he tries to act intelligent, but is ordered to just say the line. Kevin appears on the Herschel show repeating the one line, but it is now flopped. Herschel brusquely says Kevin is a has-been, and even slams the door in his face. As Kevin walks home, he reflects how fame can be fleeting.
Meanwhile, Nolan and his cousins Paul, Grady, Ed, Fran, Bill, Mick, Roy, Fred, Karl, Milt, Gary and Dave were watching the news about Kevin's not so famous.
