Yamaguchi

The training went by hastily, I didn't even notice the time because I was too caught up with practicing my jump float serves.

How little words Tsukki and I shared the entire afternoon. I barely heard him speak today. By the end of training, everybody started to fix the gymnasium.

I was sitting by the bench and shoving my stuff inside my bag when Yachi-san approached me, "Hi, Tadashi-kun!" She chirped, a big smile plastered across her face.

Fixing my gaze on her, I smiled back, "Hey, Yachi-san, what's up?" I greeted her back, as I stood up from my seat Yachi-san's face turned slightest pink and she rocked her heels back and fourth.

I could see Shoyou-kun from my peripheral vision, smiling like crazy towards Yachi-san and I, "Go, Yachi-san!" He cheered, his both hands cupping around his mouth to make his voice louder.

Kageyama-kun slightly smacked the back of Shoyou-kun's head, "Idiot! Hinata, you idiot! You'll embarass her!" He scowled, gaze directed downward, before letting out an exasperated sigh.

An automatic pout left Shoyou-kun's lips, his nose wrinkling as he exclaimed an "Ow!" Before raising his fist to hit Kageyama-kun back, but Daichi-san immediately cut their bickering by scolding them.

Yachi-san grew fidgety, her skin flushed in red, prominent lines between her eyebrows as she hesitated to speak, I studied her face, waiting for her to talk again.

"I-I was thinking if we could . . . d-do you wanna walk with . . . me?" She stammered each word she said, tucking a loose hair covering a little bit of her face behind her ear as she smiled sheepishly.

I giggled, she looked so cute, I happily obliged because it would be rude to decline a girl's offer, "Sure, Yachi-san," I smiled.

Yachi-san flashed her eyes, sparkling in excitement, "Okay! I'll just get my bag!" Her chin was elevated, as her red face settled down.

My eyes wandered around the court, landing on Tsukki at the other bench, a little too far from us with Asahi-san and Sugawara-san.

I felt the heat rise to my cheeks as Tsukki looked in my direction, I snapped my head away, knowing that if I continued to stare, he would probably mock me.

I could feel his eyes still on me, I silently inhaled and exhaled, hoping that his thoughts about me were good.

Not really expecting Tsukki to walk towards me, before I could even think twice, he was already pacing towards my direction. I felt nervous.

As he stepped closer to me, he spoke, for the very first time today with four words, "You ready to go?" He was zipping his jacket close, his expression was blank, with minimal eye contact.

What?

Is he inviting me to walk home with him?

Well, I know that we usually walk home together, like all the time, but it was unusual for him to invite me with actual words.

I let out a soft sigh, as I rub the back of my neck, "I'll be walking Yachi-san to her bus station, if you would want to come-"

A pronounced sigh left his lips, rigid expression melting on his face, "No, that's fine," He mumbled, quickly averting his eyes off of me, "I need to get home immediately, anyways, I'm exhausted,"

"Oh okay . . . But-"

He cut me off as he turned his back before striding, he said, raising his hand to wave in a sly manner, "Well, then . . . I'll see you,"

But . . . I wanted to . . .

My trail of thoughts were finally cut off by Yachi-san who approached me with her broad grin, "Let's go?" She asked, smiling as she tried to hide her excitement from her eyes.

I snapped back into reality as I blinked a few times, "Yeah," I nodded slowly, with a beam.

We exited the gymnasium, as the others still stayed, Kiyoko-san and Tanaka-san were left behind because Tanaka-san was incharge with the gymnasium keys.

"Yamaguchi-kun, take care of Yachi-san and make sure she gets on the bus, okay?" Kiyoko-san smiled at me as she gave me a light pat on the shoulder.

I nodded and smiled back, "Will do, Kiyoko-senpai,"

Yachi-san and I started to walk as we finally exited the school campus. In this season of fall, the breeze has a way of moving my hair, of tousling it into buoyant curls.

It dances with the canopies of flame, it alights both eyes and soul, yet more as the feeling of a comforting delight.

The silence crept around us as we walked, the walk felt oddly awkward and uneasy, I wasn't able to talk to her about anything as if I was lost with words, but then it settles through the silence and the shuffling of our feet on the pavement.

Surprisingly, almost catching me off guard, Yachi edged her hand towards mine ever so slightly, until I could feel her fingertips brush my hand.

I unfurled my fingers and let Yachi slip around mine until I could feel the heat of her palm pressed against my own.

I could feel my cheeks tingling from the heat, I felt my face flush warm and the hairs on my neck stand, I was nervous I might do something weird. I cleared my throat as I prayed my hand wouldn't sweat much, despite Hitoka Yachi is holding it.

"Uh . . . Um," Yachi-san hesitated, before blowing out her red stained cheeks, "A-About the kiss . . ."

Something fluttered in my stomach.

I didn't know what that feeling was. I thought it was a bizarre sensation, but it wasn't unpleasant. In that moment she knew that if she spoke, her words would fumble and she wouldn't be able to make her usual witty remarks.

I peered down at her and raised both my brows asking her to continue. Yachi-san  had that shy look young women often wear, but it was never morose.

Always behind those slightly pursed lips was a smile just waiting to be tempted out.

Sometimes she'd look my way and I generally pretended not to notice, but when I did return her glances I didn't have to try to smile, it just came naturally. In those moments she would blush ever so slightly.

"I didn't mean to kiss y-you that way, I-I was just . . ." She spoke as if she was out of breath as she fumbled with her words, unable to gain composure.

I blinked, and slightly squeezed her hand for assurance, "It's okay, Yacchan," I said, giving her a soft smile, as her stiff muscles relaxed under my touch.

The walk fell silent again, this time there wasn't an unsettling silence. All of a sudden, a faint thudding and thrashing of metal could be heard as we walked closer from the corner near the store where the vending machine Tsukki and I always walk pass by.

As we turned to the corner, a tall, slim figure stood in front of the vending machine - banging and shaking it, relentlessly. Yachi-san and I were a bit confused as we both closely observed the person.

Walking closer to the vending machine, I immediately recognized the familiar blonde with his glasses and figured it out that it was actually . . . Tsukki?
