"Give us a nice serve!" Daichi-san's voice seemed to echo all over the gymnasium mixing with the rubber screeching and sqeaking against the polished floor.
I took a deep, long breath to ease my uneven breathing from the pressure inside the gymnasium, the familiar scent of salonpas was all over the room. I couldn't seem to hear anyone but a long ringing sound inside my head. Heck, am I nervous.
I held the volleyball right in front of my chest, aiming my best serve, praying it wouldn't land by the net anymore. Before I ready myself, I looked around realizing that all the eyes in the court was darting to my direction, they're all looking at me.
Not long, the referee blew his whistle. The cheers going around starts to drown, I couldn't hear anything. Not even Sugawara-san, Coach Ukai-san, Kyoko-san or the crowd's cheers, only the whistle, and my loud heartbeat, beating through my eardrums. If my serve fails now, we'll be struggling to catch up sooner.
I strutted forward with my arm aiming to serve, I tossed the ball in the air before hitting it, giving my jump float a try for the first time ever in an official game. As my palm connects to the ball, I felt every nerve from my hand tingle from the sensation of the hard impact, hearing a loud, sharp thud from it. I gasped.
The ball was fast and I stared at it hoping it wouldn't hit the net.
It didn't, actually it went pass the net.
The ball landed . . .
"Out!" Kuroo-san yelled, raising both of his hands before smirking. The referee blew his whistle and pointed his palm at Team Nekoma as a sign for another point.
Damn it.
Karasuno: 23
Nekoma: 24My breathing hitched as I heard almost everyone on my team sighed, my knees were shaky, even my palms was sweaty, I could feel my blood coming up to my cheeks, "I'm so sorry!" I squealed, hastily bowing my head towards everybody in embarrassment.
"Shake it off, Yamaguchi! We can still catch up!" Asahi-san nodded and gave me a tough encouraging smile.
"Hai!" I yelled with a nod to release pressure. How can I miss! We can never catch up anytime soon. I'm such a klutz! I jogged towards my position after failing that serve for hundreds of times.
Hinata gave my shoulder a tap causing me to flinch a little, "Don't worry Yamaguchi! We'll take that point back!" He chirped and smiled ear to ear.
I hesitantly nodded, "Thanks," I managed to plaster a small smile before focusing on the play. I can still feel my knees shaking, my body wouldn't relax, the moment was so intense!
The next ball is Nekoma. Kenma's up to serve.
"Nice serve!" Kuroo-san yelled, placing both his hands behind his head. The referee whistled as Kenma aimed to serve, his face was masked with boredom and concentration was obvious, although there was a bit of tension from his expression. He hit the ball flawlessly and went straight to Tanaka-san. Tanaka-san's receive was too long as it bounced back to Nekoma's court.
"Sorry!" Tanaka-san yelled, running back to his position.
"Chance ball!" Yaku-san managed to retrieve the ball, passing it to Kuroo-san for setting, "Last, Lev!"
Tsukki, Hinata and Kageyama ran towards the net ready to block! Everyone was tensed, focused and prepared of what was bound to happen, waiting with anticipation. My heart was beating so much faster it felt like it was going to rip out of my chest. Kuroo-san tossed the ball towards . . .
