NOVEMBER . . .
Yamaguchi
"Yachi-chan's coming over by dinner," I tell my mom, timidly, while I fixed my school jacket in front of a mirror in my room, completely distracted by over fixing it.
We've started to wear our winter season school jacket and I always thought it looked ugly. My mom paced my room as she had finally collected my clothes that needed laundering in a brown woven basket.
My mom smiled so soft, "Oh well, then, that's great! I'll prepare you guys some Sukiyaki," She chirped, tucking her brunette hair behind her ear.
I gave her a small smile while I gaze over her on the mirror, I walked towards her, giving her a peck over her cheek, "I'll see you later, mom,"
I exited my room and then down to the kitchen to grab a piece of apple before I scurry out of the house. Damn, it really is cold today. The temperature must've dropped by four degrees by morning, I already had doubled my jacket and had a matching scarf.
It's been over three weeks, and things had escalated so quick. Yachi-san and I confirmed things in our relationship and we've been doing really good. I had introduced her to my mom over the past few days and my mom was definitely happy about it.
She even went shopping with Yachi-san as if we were about to get married or something. I didn't mind at all, Yachi-san would always oblige happily.
On the other hand . . . Tsukki and I remained friends. Not too close, though, we never spoke about anything . . . since that day.
We barely hang out anymore because I started to hang out with Yachi-san so often. Even break times and after practices, I would walk Yachi-san to her bus station and Tsukki would go home immediately.
Tsukki and I never spoke about his mom, or whatever that's been going on with his life or even the kiss we shared. We would only talk about academic things or if I'll ask him about things I find difficult to do. I would sometimes laugh at his snarky remarks towards Hinata-kun and Kageyama-kun during practices.
We were back as friends as if nothing happened. It's like the same usual routine we always did but we never went home together, again.
I miss Tsukki and I miss hanging out with him. But, this is what I should be doing. If my mom's happy with what I do and so am I.
I didn't want to let her down or disappoint her because I know she only wants the best for me and if I force things the way I want, it would break her heart and all my mom and dad's sacrifices for me would just go to waste.
And so I did went with what I think would be the best for me. For my parents. And for Yachi.
When I finally had arrived in front of Karasuno's campus gate, I saw Yacchan sitting by the bench with her hair pulled up into a ponytail. I always thought she looked good with her hair up.
Striding towards her, she took notice of my presence and a smile immediately melted on her face despite the cold weather, her smile was so warm and radiant, I almost forgot it was winter.
"Good morning, Tadashi-kun!" Yacchan greeted, wrapping her thin arms around my neck to pull me in a kiss.
I reclined my neck towards her height to catch her lips, as we shared a blissful kiss, I felt Yacchan's smile over our kiss, competely warming my cheeks, "Good morning, Yacchan, did I took long?" I smiled, wrapping my arm by her shoulders as we started to walk towards the campus.
"Nope," She chirped, cheerfully. I kept my arm wrapped around her shoulder as we walked.
The campus grounds started to fill in with students roaming around, chatters and laughters filled the cold air. My eyes wandered around and was immediately fixed on the bright, tangerine color by the staircase waving towards Yacchan and I.
"Yamaguchi-kun! Yachi-san!" Hinata-kun and Kageyama-kun stood by the staircase as Hinata-kun waved at us.
Hinata's face held the widest smile I've seen today and Kageyama-kun stood next to him with a volleyball in his hands, his expression the same - bored, stoic but curious. We took notice towards them and decided to approach them as Hinata-kun started to gesture us to come near him.
"Yamaguchi-kun! Yachi-san!" He called out again, louder this time.
Kageyama frowned towards Hinata and grimaced, "Idiot! They heard you!" He hissed, smacking the back of his head making Hinata's face shrunk as he flinched by the sudden pain.
"Ow!" He complained, hitting Kageyama back.
Yacchan giggled, "Good morning!" She greeted with a smile.
When Hinata finally gained his composure back, he bit his lip trying to contain his excitement as his fists balled just in front of him, "Guess what!" He exclaimed.
I raised my eyebrow at him, "What?" I asked, switching my looks towards Hinata and then to Yacchan.
"We won the Science fair!" Hinata's face bursted into a wide grin as he jumped up and down in excitement.
A grin fell on my lips and so did Yacchan, "Oh my god! Really?" Yacchan exclaimed, her voice shook as she tried to keep it down but failed miserably.
"Yeah! I looked it up, and it's all over the school now! We won and we'll be interviewed later!" Hinata was flabbergasted with joy, as he held Yacchan's side and shook her violently, not able to conceal his delight.
I laughed as I felt joy and excitement engulfed me, happiness streaked through me like a comet, "That's good news!"
Satisfaction settled in my soul, giving Yacchan and Hinata a hug as we three continued to banter about the Science project. I was surprised that we won. I never expected us to win, since I only freestyled the project. It was only suppose to be an insult for Tsukki because he hated Natto so much.
This Science project indeed saved our grades.
"Tsukishima-san!" Hinata beamed behind us, waving his hands.
I felt my stomach churned when I heard his name. I suddenly felt nervous, I smile spastically, as a forced expression was plastered across my face, my wide smile not reaching my eyes.
Tsukki stood beside me with his bored expression, "You're so loud and it's not even pass eight," His voice was monotone as he stared down at Hinata, competely not meeting my eyes.
"How can I not?" Hinata chirped, "We won the Science fair!"
Tsukki's expression didn't change as he peered over Kageyama beside Hinata, "What place did we won, Kageyama?" He deadpanned, completely ignoring Hinata.
Kageyama was skeptical at first and spoke hesitant with his low voice, "Uh . . . Second," He muttered, replying to Tsukki.
"Good enough," Tsukki shrugged his shoulder nonchalantly, walking pass us, as he started to walk up the stairs.
I never got to ask Tsukki what they were working on because it never crossed my mind until today. When Tsukki disappeared through the corridors, I took the opportunity to ask Kageyama.
"What did you guys experimented on?" I asked Kageyama as we started to walk up the stairs, too.
Yacchan and Hinata continued to chatter about our Science project as their voices started to fade when I took my full attention towards Kageyama.
Kageyama held the volleyball in his hands and shrugged his shoulder, "It was something about . . . Um . . ." His forehead formed lines as he deeply thought about it, "We did a full research and investivation about . . . freckles?"
I blinked, as if I heard wrong, "Freckles?"
"Yeah, we made a 3D microstructural presentation. It was Tsukishima-san's idea and I just went along with it because he was pushy about it." Kageyama explained, as he started to play with the volleyball he was holding.
Freckles, huh.
