Capítulo III- La Alarma de Incendios

Patience tapped her pencil against her wooden desk. She waited impatiently for the bell to ring. Adam, Bree, and Chase roamed the school without her and Leo but only because they promised they wouldn't speak to anyone or act out of the ordinary like they did when they first arrived. Worry consumed her because she had little trust in them. They seemed to be kind, but she had known them for a whole day.

The bell rang and Patience pushed past the people in her class. People shouted across the hall for their friends or pushed past to get to the gym. Prep rallies were far from calm in Mission Creek High. Someone elbowed her shoulder and she grunted turning to see who it was. They didn't notice they hit her by accident. Patience excused her way through the crowd to announce she was there.

She was able to escape to the bottom of the stairs and stood on her tippy-toes. Her upperclassmen were taller than her by a couple of inches and their heads prevented her the view the gym. Patience sought for Leo or any of the bionic humans. Principal Perry's voice boomed through the hall from the gym. She announced into a mic, "Attention students! The prep rally is starting! Go Dingoes!"

The cheerleading squad did their cheer in the middle of the gym as the school band got in place. Patience spotted Leo signing a basketball for a pretty blonde. She nervously waited as he glid the sharpie on her basketball for an autograph. "Here you go, baby."

Patience smiled amusingly, "Wow, Leo, you might get the all-access hall pass next."

"I know! We could use that pass to our advantage!" Leo turned to the door and Adam and Bree walked in with matching smiles. Patience sighed in relief knowing they were okay. All they needed was Chase. "You guys rock. Ever since gym class, everyone wants to be my friend. And there's been a certain gentleness to my wedgies."

"I mean it's the least we could do." Bree reminded, "You gave us our first taste of freedom."

"Yeah, and our first taste of Salisbury steak," Adam withdrew a piece of steak from his pocket. He waved it in front of their faces, "Um. Yum."

Before he bit into the steak, Patience brought his hand down, "That cannot be sanitary. That violates everything from the health department."

     "What? But it's so good."

"I'll make you one if I have to. My dad's a chef. I don't want you getting sick."

His eyes widened, and he held his hands out in disbelief, "Your dad's a chef? Do you know that information just affected me?"
