Capítulo XVI- El Malo Del Futuro
Patience rarely raided the kitchen in a home that wasn't hers. The only times she did was when Leo encouraged it and he sent her to pick something from the kitchen. A bowl of pretzels was in her hands as she slid into a swivel chair. It rolled next to Leo. Fire Boy and Water Girl were currently on the screen. He had water bottles for them already on the desk. Patience set the bowl between them, and they grabbed a pretzel at the same time.
She had breakfast early, wanting to leave her house before Adam, Bree, and Chase went on their mission. It was a school morning, so she had to wake up earlier than usual. They played the game as they waited for Mr. Davenport's instruction for a new mission. He should be downstairs soon. Patience had just seen him as she dumped pretzels in the bowl. Before the pair of best friends could play the game again, he entered the lab.
"Okay, your mission supplies are packed, the schematics have been uploaded into Chase's chip, and your transport is on the way. Did I forget anything?"
Bree sarcastically said, "No. We'll just guess what the mission is and see how it plays out."
"All right," he nodded, taking annoyance at the remark. "A partial collider is a three-mile-long underground facility where scientists-"
Chase cut in, raising a finger. He stood next to Mr. Davenport as their gazes averted to him. "Race subatomic particles at each other at light speed for energy experiments. It's so cool!"
"I know," Mr. Davenport agreed. They fiddled their fingers together saying, "Deedle-deedle-dee!" Adam and Bree sent them odd looks, causing them to stop. "There is a particle collider in Berkeley that is accelerating out of control, and your mission is to shut it down."
"Oh! Awesome!" Adam leaned towards Bree and Chase. "I hope one of us knows how to do that."
Concern laced Patience's features. She had her worries over the bionic siblings going to missions. Adam had an idea of what to do. He just needed some guidance sometimes. Bree and Chase for sure had it in control. It was confirmed when their eyebrows furrowed at his brother's hopes.
"Okay. We have to act quickly. The scientists that operate the facility- S'cuse me," Mr. Davenport moved Patience and Leo away from his desktop. Luckily, the game wasn't playing. They rolled away, with Leo reaching for the bowl. "Have already evacuated the control center and if we don't shut it down in time, it will create a massive black hole that will implode the entire plant."
Patience glanced at the model on the screen of the accelerator. She finished chewing the pretzel and said, "I wonder how many times the world has almost ended? I feel like this isn't the last time."
Mr. Davenport cackled, "You'd be surprised."
Leo and Patience paused their chewing and exchanged glances, wide-eyed. He gave the bowl to Patience and asked, "Today? No, that's not gonna work. Today is Shelly's Evan's birthday party and her mom makes the best cupcakes!" The group furrowed their eyebrows. "I'm just sayin' that woman doesn't skimp on the sprinkles."
