Capítulo XV- Misión Simulador
Not only was Patience able to make cakes for 100 people, but she also decided last minute to make an appetizer as well. She staggered around her kitchen left and right, up and down, to complete her task. When Dante got home, he smelled the scent of vanilla and chocolate stepping out of his car. It wasn't unusual until he looked at the kitchen. Patience had flour on her face and splattered on her apron. A small streak of chocolate frosting smeared on her neck from an itch she scratched.
Her hair was braided up in a bun and she smiled at him as he skeptically looked around, "Oh, hi, dad! You're home early. How was work?"
She stopped the mixer when the oven beeped. Dante removed his shoes, not bothering to fix them up at the moment. His concern was his daughter and the mess surrounding her. Whisks of vanilla and chocolate batter dripped on the counter, sugar sparkled with cocoa powder dusted on top, bowls now empty of the cake batter were left out, and sticks of butter sat by her.
"Work was slow. Patience, what's all this?" he asked. His eyes wouldn't stop lingering around the kitchen mess. He knew she would clean up after herself, but he had never walked in on her rushing as if she were in a baking show.
She spun around to locate the beeping oven. She opened it to check the cake's progress. "Me, Adam, Bree, and Chase are throwing Leo a surprise party." The cake had about then minutes until it was ready. She shut the oven to face her dad again.
"With how many people?" Dante gestured to the sink, "Patience, it would be easier if you clean up before starting the frosting."
"Like maybe about 100," she simply said. "And I know, I just got excited and started right away."
His eyes widened, and more questions were raised in his head. It explained the mess and the number of ingredients. He gently set a hand on her shoulder, "You're not doing this all by yourself, are you? Where's Tasha?"
"Tasha can't throw him a party. She has an award ceremony she has to attend. But Adam, Bree, and Chase are helping decorate the house and calling around."
"Ah, I'm relieved you aren't doing this yourself." He advanced toward the sink, "But I'm not letting you do this by yourself."
"It's okay. You go ahead and have dinner. It's in the fridge."
He twisted his mouth, narrowing his eyes at the mess around him. His stomach grumbled taking another whiff of the chocolate cake's scent leaving the oven. "I'll eat something quick, then, I'll help you." He pumped soap out of the dispenser, "Isn't Leo's birthday tomorrow?"
"It is. I want to make an appetizer for the party too. I was thinking of buffalo wings."
Opening the fridge, he pulled out the dinner Patience prepped for him on a plate. It was wrapped in plastic so it wouldn't get the taste of the fridge or dry out. "We need to go to the store to buy the chicken."
