I woke up the next morning with Keith's arms around me. It was about four-thirty, and the rest of the Garrison wouldn't be awake for at least an hour. I decided I needed to train.

Keith woke up as I shuffled to get out of bed.

"Where do you think you're going?" He mumbled, pulling me close to him and kissing the back of my neck.

"I was going to train," I whispered back.

"I'll come with you," he said.

Keith pulled me out of bed and kissed me again before he left to get changed.

I put on my Blade suit, strapping my weapon around my waist so it was sheathed right at my hip, and then I left my room to wait for Keith outside his door. When he emerged from his room and stepped into the hallway, he grinned.

I smirked.

He pushed me up against the wall and kissed me softly before grabbing my hand and leading me at a sprint to the training arena.

We trained for an hour, and then we went back to our dorms to get ready for the day. Once we had changed into our Garrison uniforms, we went down to the cafeteria, which was already set up for the early risers.

"If we do this every morning, it's like going on a date every day!" I said as we sat down with our food.

Keith smiled softly at me in response.

He and I looked up, startled, when the MFE pilots sat down next to us. Keith tensed.

"Commander Holt needs you in the bay after breakfast," Griffin said, looking a me.

I nodded.

"And Shiro's having his operation following Sam's discussion with Officer Kintanara," he said, turning to Keith.

Keith nodded stiffly.

We sat in silence for the rest of the meal, and when it was over, I headed for the bay and Keith headed to the med wing.

Griffin was following me.

"Can I help you with something?" I asked sternly.

"I'm supposed to come with you, officer," he said.

I didn't respond.

When I got to the bay, Sam was waiting for me.

"How would you like to be an MFE pilot?" Sam asked when he saw me.

"Come again?" I asked in disbelief.

"We've got five MFEs, one built specially for you," Sam said.

"What about my other responsibilities?" I asked.

"It sounds to me like the Blade of Marmora is being rebuilt by someone else, and only you, Josh, and Keith are the remaining members here on earth. There's not going to be much you can do," he said.

I grinned. "I thought you'd never ask."

Sam smiled. "Officer Griffin is the squadron head, but you outrank him. Did you want to take the lead?"

I shook my head. "No, I've led other units for the majority of my life. I'll enjoy the break."

Griffin held out his hand for me to shake. "Welcome to the crew."

I shook it quickly. "Thanks."

"You'll need to start training in the simulation today so that we can get you in a real plane as soon as possible," Sam said.
