"Paladins, brace for impact," I said as we watched the object crash through the atmosphere.
Lillian met my eyes, and we had the same understanding.
She took Shiro, and I sprinted to my Lion. I instructed Hunk to help Lillian get Shiro to the Atlas. We'd need her and the rest of the MFEs soon.
A creature emerged from the impact site, immediately shooting at us as we attempted to cover Hunk.
I shot a beam from my Lion, but the robot shielded itself.
"That energy spectrum completely deflected our attack!" Allura shouted.
And I was very aware of it.
"Shiro and Lillian are aboard the Atlas," Hunk reported, and I went back to fighting the creature, relieved that Lillian was safe.
The bot's beams were powerful, and we all tried to dodge them. With our jaw-blades formed, we flew in for a closer fight. Only that was short-lived when everyone was downed by a mere smack of a double-sided scythe.
I got back up, but was shot down again from a blast that was fired from the bot.
I became frustrated.
"Keith, we've got you covered," Lance said. "Get out of there!"
I flew off the ground and into the sky.
We needed to figure out a way to take advantage of this thing.
"Does anyone have any idea where this thing came from?" Hunk asked.
We needed to start brainstorming its origins before we could find its weakest link. That was how most battle strategies worked for us.
"No clue," Pidge said.
In that moment we spoke, the beast took advantage of us again, shooting beams at all of our Lions.
"We just defeated an entire Galra armada, and now this?"Allura said with an incredulous and irritated tone.
"Paladins... I know we're all in bad shape, but we have strength together," I said. No matter how cliche anything was going to sound, it didn't matter. My team needed encouragement, and it was my job to give it to them.
"This is earth. This is our home. We're going to defend it," I said.
"And we'll be by your side!" Coran agreed, the Atlas descending from the sky to hover next to the battle.
The Atlas began to fire at the creature, but that seemed only to aggravate it. The beast shot a huge beam from its hand that broke the Atlas's particle barrier.
I heard commotion within the ship, but I couldn't focus on that. I began to think through processes as I fired as many lasers at the creature as possible. And then something came to mind.
"Atlas, we need you to hold the beast back temporarily so we have time to form Voltron," I said. "It's the only way we're gonna beat this thing."
"Affirmative," Coran said.
"Paladins, let's finish this fight," I said as I led our formation up to the sky.
I focused on forming Voltron instead of the fight below us, and when we got to make an epic entry, I smirked.
"Thanks for covering for us, Atlas," I said.
We landed on the ground, attempting to be as intimidating as possible, though it didn't work. The Team and myself shared gasps as the creature's weapon split into two powerful swords.
