I refused to waste any more time relaxing, so when I woke up the morning after my first date with Keith, I made sure the rest of my Unit woke up with me. It was time to get back in shape.
By 5:30 a.m. we were in the training arena, and we all hated each other.
"Can Josh participate?" I asked, turning to Ava.
She pulled up Josh's med history. "I guess," she mumbled.
"What do you mean you guess?" Josh asked, slightly angry as he was still waking up.
It was clear that none of us wanted to be training at such an ungodly hour. Keith was even in the corner with his arms crossed, brooding and staring at the floor as if he was offended it even existed.
Ava shrugged. "You can participate, just don't push yourself."
"Fantastic," I said. "Ten laps around the arena."
I led us at a sprint, Keith keeping pace next to me. Josh was the slowest as he hadn't been running in awhile, and I imagined he was in pain. I was having slight discomfort as well, but it was definitely nothing compared to his.
When we finished the run, I couldn't breathe. I put my hands on top of my head to open up my lungs a bit, but the sudden exercise was not something I was used to. Josh was having the same issue as well while the rest of the unit caught their breath in less than a minute. They looked at me expectantly as I struggled to breath, none of them caring.
As soon as I could breathe even slightly again, I ordered some conditioning exercises that Josh and I sat out of. After that, it was one-on-one combat without blades.
Once our intense training was over, we went up to Central Command where Kolivan was waiting for us.
We took seats around the table and looked expectantly at Kolivan.
"As you know, Voltron brought Lotor into custody and have been questioning him on his motives. He has said he wants to work together with the Blades and with Voltron in taking down Zarkon. However, we're having a hard time trusting him. In an effort to build this trust, we have been given a few missions, Galra bases that should be easily taken down in order to usher in a new era of peace. Omega and Alpha were nearest to two of the locations, and I will be sending you, Delta, to another outpost." Kolivan paused and then went on. "These missions are clearly detailed, a rough outline of the base given and its defenses laid out. Your objective is to disable it, which should be done with ease once you are in."
I didn't say anything, just looked at him.
"When is this mission?" Josh asked.
"Tomorrow."
"That's way too early!" I protested. "We haven't even done the proper investigation and—"
"It's already been done," Keith growled. "By Lotor."
"So you're just going to throw us into a situation purely out of the effort to try to trust our enemy?" I asked sternly.
"I've already had a team cross-reference those bases, and so far, with the minimal amount of information we have from said bases, Lotor has been correct. You're going on this mission. After the second wake-up call. It shouldn't be too difficult to complete," Kolivan said.
I glared at him slightly. "So I don't actually have more meetings today."
He shook his head. "No, however, Josh will be leaving your unit after tomorrow. He'll be taking charge over your back-up unit. Kiana may be getting a unit at some point as well, which would make Keith your second. As for you, General, you're my second, so I need you in Control today. We have to monitor the status of our out-units. It's check-in day."
