Keith
When I woke up, I saw Lillian next to me and remembered our kiss. Our multiple kisses, and our sleep together.
Wow. We're actually a thing.
I blushed.
Since Lillian's injuries were on her right side, she was laying on her left. I quickly positioned myself to face her, and carefully planted a kiss on her lips. It worked like a charm.
She woke up, put a hand on my neck, and leaned into the kiss as much as she could. I pulled her as close as I dared without hurting her.
"I love you," I said as I took a breath.
She giggled.
She's giggling. Actually giggling. That's a first.
"I love you," she said.
"Be my girlfriend?" I asked softly though our relationship status was pretty obvious.
"Only if you're my other half," she smiled and kissed me again.
I can live with this.
"Of course," I mumbled.
"Okay, lovebirds. Unfortunately, there is not a section of protocol that addresses relationships within the Unit, but I'm going to assume that such behaviour is unacceptable," Kiana said, finally acknowledging the awkwardness. "I'm also going to pretend that I didn't see it. As is everyone else."
I blushed, meeting Lillian's eyes. She was grinning.
"Since our current leadership is in the middle of creating sexual tension, I will be taking the lead for a moment. Josh is still in the hospital, but he is fully conscious and would appreciate some visitors. You are all required to go see him. And Lillian and Keith, you are required to be out of the barracks in five minutes. Ella, make sure they don't start doing other things," Kiana said, leaving the room.
"Yes, Lieutenant," Ella said with a nod.
I stood first, and helped Lillian out of bed. We walked to the locker rooms together, but parted to go into our separate areas. I quickly showered and changed, and went to wait for Lillian.
"Let's go down to the hospital wing. I need to see if I can stop wearing this stupid sling," Lillian said when she walked out.
We stopped by the dorms to drop off our pajamas and headed to the med wing.
When we got to there, instead of arguing to get her sling off, Lillian made a bee-line for Josh.
The hospital was an open room, so it wasn't that hard to find him. He was laying on his back, arms at his sides, and covered by a blanket. His eyes were closed, and I found it odd that a very strong young man was in such a weak and vulnerable position.
Lillian put her hand on his arm. He was obviously not sleeping because his eyes opened the second he felt her touch.
Josh smirked, "Finally got the nerve, did you?"
Lillian rolled her eyes. "You're not the only one recovering."
"So, what injuries did you sustain, General?" He asked, eyeing the sling.
"Shoulder shot, and a bullet graze to the leg and side," she answered.
I felt the smallest pang of pain in my heart.
"How did you stay conscious, though? You flew steadily with the worst of the team's injuries. You shouldn't have," Lillian said.
They were holding hands at this point, but I felt safe it was in a friendly way.
