A Quick Author's Note:

Hey, guys!  I'm back!  This chapter has given me much grief, but I really wanted to get you all some content.  It's not my best work, and it could use some editing, which I may return to.  As for now, I'm going to try to get back into publishing this story once a week, and the following chapters should be much better than this one!  Hopefully you can enjoy! 😅

The first wake-up call came much too early. It consisted of an alarm clock that went off for a straight minute through all the speakers of the base. I did not want to get out of bed at all. Lucky for me, I didn't have to be the team's motivational ray of early morning good mood. Keith was. He jumped up off the floor as if it were normal, woke the rest of us, and ran off to the locker room to change.

"Well, he's damn set on doing everything himself," Josh grumbled.

"No shit," I muttered.

A typical morning in the Delta Unit barracks. Collectively, we hated mornings, and we knew to keep distances from each other as we were waking up.

Kiana went to change next, and I rolled out of bed a few moments later.

"Everyone needs to be changed by the time I get back," I said, and was joined with the rest of Delta on the way to the locker rooms.

I had showered the night before, so it would have been unnecessary to do it again. I changed out of my pajamas and into my Blade suit, strapping my blade around my waist. Next, I brushed out my hair and put it in a long braid down my back. I looked in the mirror to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything, then went back to the barracks with my pajamas under one arm. I shoved them in a drawer, and waited in the hall for the rest of my unit.

Once everyone was assembled, I did a comm check with Kolivan to let him know we were heading to the departure bay. We had decided that he wasn't going to go on this mission, but he'd be a key part in the supply line infiltration. Our current mission was only to gather intel on the already identified supply route before we decided breached it.

We boarded our pod in the bay, Josh did his signals to control, and we were off. I tried to keep my distance from Keith as I explained the mission to everyone, however, his constant questions forced me to continue interacting with him.

Finally, we were at the mission site. It included a few cruisers transporting the quintessence. We were to split up to gather intel from two different cruisers and blow both of them up when we were finished. Keith, Kiana, and I were on one team while Josh took the head of the other half of the unit.

My team left first. We jetpacked to the lead ship. That left Josh in charge. We'd rendezvous on his mark. We had an hour, at most, to get what we needed.

I cut a circle in the top of the ship so we could slip through. When we did, we each had to take out two sentries, and we had landed in the exact place we needed to be.

My luck.

As soon as I plugged the flash drive into the computer console, an alarm went off.

Or not, I guess.

"The main computer has been breached," a soldier said over the blaring siren.

I growled.

Now what do I do? I can't exactly lock us in here. We need to set the explosives.
