Lillian
We talked for a long time in "the bridge." The bridge, as the Paladins called it, looked out into space. It was beautiful to see the great expanse. There were so many universes and galaxies we were passing. All the different types of people and cultures fascinated me.
During the meeting, I hadn't been of use. Kiana and I stood in the back, listening to Kolivan and Shiro as they debated a process. Sometimes Allura and Coran added their opinions, but they mostly agreed with Shiro. I noted that Keith brooded in the far corner, staring at the floor. He hadn't spoken to anyone at all. The other Paladins seemed to get bored. In fact, Hunk was sleeping, Pidge was playing a game, and Lance was the only one even pretending to pay attention.
"What? What'd I miss?" Hunk looked up, startled.
I rolled my eyes. These Paladins seemed super incompetent.
Kiana nudged me. "Calm down, Lily."
I huffed. I did not do calm.
"Oh, nothing important. We've just figured out a way to defeat Zarkon," Lance, the Blue Paladin, said.
"Really? I dozed for ten minutes, and you guys figured out how to defeat the forces of evil?" Hunk seemed shocked.
Ten minutes? He had no sense of time.
"You've been asleep for three hours." Pidge shoved her glasses up on her nose as she glared at Hunk.
I turned back to Shiro and Kolivan, the people who actually knew what was going on. The non-incopotent people.
"I think we've got something here. It's dangerous and there are a lot of moving parts, but if we can coordinate everything just right, then—" Shiro trailed off.
"Zarkon's reign will be at an end, and the savagery that's poisoned our universe can finally be cleansed. You've done it, Shiro." Kolivan shook his hand.
I huffed again. Shiro did not plan the whole thing. Kolivan had volunteered himself for the most dangerous part.
"We did it together," Shiro said.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Then, the princess spoke up. Her voice was laced with an underlying anger. "As long as we all stick to the plan, it should work."
I glared at her. "It will work," I said. "Maybe, then, you'll learn that not all Galra are as bad as Zarkon."
I noticed that she looked back at Keith, who was still staring at the floor.
"I hope not," she said.
"Ulaz was right to trust you all," Antok said.
Was he, though? I mean, only a few of them were decent people, but they didn't seem to work as a unit. They were obviously struggling.
"He sacrificed everything to bring us together. Let's honour him by taking down Zarkon," Shiro said.
Since we had already hosted Ulaz's departure ceremony in the Blades, I guessed that taking down Zarkon was the only way left to avenge him, though that might not have been the right word.
"So, what's the plan?" Hunk asked.
I leaned over to Kiana and whispered, "If he hadn't been asleep, he would know."
She grinned and shook her head, "Don't be so hard on them. They haven't even been saving the universe for a year. We've been doing this since we were children."
