Happiest Year Of My Life

I stop for a minute looking down at the small box in my hand. "Meredith Evangeline Grey," I start again.

"The minute I meet you I fell in love. Meredith you are unlike any other women I have ever met. You are beautiful, you are kind, you say you're twisty but you're not. I knew from the minute I met you if I ever let you go I would regret it for the rest of my life, Meredith I let you leave once and I won't let it happen again. Meredith Evangeline Grey I love you I have loved you for a while now. I talked to the kids, your sisters and Richard about this. Meredith I can assure you we will fight, we will disagree, there will be problems but most of all I promise to love you. I promise to put you first. I promise to care for all of our kids. I know you don't like making big decisions so I understand if you have to think about this, Meredith Evangeline Grey will you please marry me? Be my wife, be my children's mother. Just be with me."
Meredith stops for a minute. "I- I- I- yes" she says. Without even thinking about it I pick her up and spin her around and around. Meredith screams. Everyone is clapping and cheering. Meredith is crying and so am I. I put her down mostly because I didn't want her to puke and because I want to get this ring on her finger. Meredith holds out her hand I open the box and slip the ring on her finger. "Cormac Oliver Hayes." She yells Austin mocking her as she said it, that made me laugh because Austin said she was going to to that. "You spent way too much money on me today." Austin still mocking her. "No I didn't. I would spend every penny I have on you if you would let me." I reply she looks at the ring then takes both of her hands places them on my face and kisses me. It was a long kiss but it was appropriate because everyone was right there. "Ti amo, grazie piccola. possiamo festeggiare più tardi." She softly whispers in my ear as she hugs me, she said "I love you, thank you baby. We can celebrate later." I held her for another minute and then she turned to Maggie and Amelia. "I'm getting married" she yelled excitedly while a tear rolled down her face. I chuckle at her. "I know." Maggie says. "We have known." Amelia responds. "Wanna see the ring?" Meredith asks. "We already saw it but I want to see it on you." Amelia answers. Meredith walk's over holding her hand out. "Oh my god mer." Maggie says "that's a big ass ring." Amelia says. We are all laughing now. The kids walk over to us, Austin hands me Ellis. "Jesus dad that is big." He says shocked. Meredith smiles and nods. "Yes it is Austin." I reply. "What did you spend? One million?" Liam asks. Taking a sip of water I shrug and raise my eyebrows.

Two weeks later

"Meredith grey!" I hear as cormac and I walk into the hospital. "Good morning to you too Bailey." I say turning around. "Grey I need a consult Hayes you too." Bailey says so cormac and I follow her as I'm walking I put my hair into a ponytail. "Grey!" Bailey yells standing next to me. "Jesus Bailey. What I'm right next to you why are you yelling?" I ask. "Is that- is that a ring on your hand?" She questions as I walk into trauma 2 putting gloves on. "Uh." I say looking at cormac. "It's our kidney transplant patient. She seems to be rejecting the kidney." Cormac says ignoring the ring situation. "Okay let's get a CT and call mom." I say walking over to Maddie's limp body. I pick up her chart reading it. "Bailey asked about my ring." I say not making eye contact with cormac. "What did you say?" He asks. "Uh. I said uh. I didn't know what to do." I reply "you said uh? Just uh? No explanation? Grey you can tell people. I want to scream it off roof tops. Tell anyone you want." Cormac responds I chuckle. "Okay well let's stay away from roofs." An intern takes Maddie to CT. I walk closer to cormac we still have on our gloves and gowns. "Ti amo, baciami." I say he looks at me. "What did you just say to him? It better be appropriate so help me god grey." Bailey says. "Bailey she said she loves me and to kiss her actually her exact words were 'I love you, kiss me.' I think that's appropriate." Cormac responds to her. I smile and put my head on his chest. "Yeah but he doesn't follow directions very well." I say. Bailey's pager goes off. "Grey your clothes better stay on." She yells walking out of the room. "Non ascolto molto bene le indicazioni? Penso che ieri sera non saresti d'accordo." (I don't follow directions very well? I think you last night would disagree.) Cormac says. I slap his chest. "Cormac Hayes." I say. "Hmm you were saying that last night too." I look at him as my jaw drops. "Whatever. You seemed to enjoy it." I reply. "That I did." He responds.  I look around to make sure no one else is in the room. "My first OB is in two hours if we're not in surgery are you coming?" I ask. Cormac smiles putting a hand on my belly. "Of course I am." Cormac says. I smile. "Ti amo cormac." I say putting my head back in his chest as he wraps his arms around me. "Ti amo Meredith." He responds.

"Where's Doctor grey I thought she was scrubbing in?" Asks doctor helm. "She was however she has somewhere she needs to be so doctor Webber is scrubbing in instead." I reply as one of the many scrub nurses puts gloves on my hands. "Thank you Linda." I smile. I was thanking the nurse that put on my gloves, most doctors dont do that but I felt I had to every time. She smiles and nods as she walks away. "Doctor Hayes, you have been paged to OB." Richard says walking in with his hands in the air. He gave me a face that said "go I have this" "okay Doctor Webber this patient is very important to me, make sure she makes it." I state. "Of course Doctor Hayes. Doctor Bailey will be scrubbing in as well we will do our best to save her. Go help whoever paged you." Richard says. "Why do I feel like you are talking in a different language no one understands?" Helm asks as I walk out. Scrub cap and gown still on I run to the OB floor. I walk into Meredith's room. "Babe?" She says excitedly but also confused as I open and close the door. "Richard and Bailey scrubbed in with helm. I couldn't miss this." I say.

I grab Cormac's hand very obviously nervous. "Hey it will be okay, you're in your second trimester. Everything is fine." Cormac says. He kisses me as the door opens. "Doctor Grey?" Doctor Deluca says. "Hi Carina." I respond with a smile. "Again?" She asks. I chuckle. "Yes again, unless I have some sort of tumor.." I say now sounding scared. "It's not a tumor." Cormac and Carina say at the same time. "Okay well you definitely know the drill but just a warning the jelly will be cold." Carina say squirting jelly on my belly. She grabs the ultrasound wand and presses it gently on my belly. "Woah." She says turning the screen towards her more so we can't see even a little bit. "Wh- wha- what?" I say extremely scared. Cormac squeezes my hand three times. It was our thing it meant I love you. I squeeze his back three times. "It's okay babe." He says. Looking at the screen and moving the wand Carina says. "Did you two get engaged? I noticed the ring on your hand Meredith." She was trying to distract me and it wasn't working "yes. What is wrong with the baby?" I say not falling for her distraction. "Well Meredith and Cormac I have some news."
