it's still in pristine condition.
you ran your finger across
the rough edge at the top from when
i tore it out of my legal pad.

the rounded alphabet
marks the paper with blue ink.
the inscription conglomerates
into a whirlpool of loving letters.

the music box of my mind,
the painted ballerina spinning,
in awe at the fact
you had kept such a letter.

to think my flower,
the bud i had begun nurturing
in spirit of the new year,
would blossom so soon.

this story is one for the books.
a note that had slipped my mind
aided you throughout your descent
into madness.
alas, aren't we all a little mad?

i still picture it.
you crouching down
in front of that cardboard door,
donning your mini top hat
that suited your size very well.

i gazed from the tree branches,
swaying my striped tail hypnotically,
pawing at the splintering wood
and hoping the scratches
would catch your attention.

sitting on the benches
in the drama classroom.
seeing your lengthy hair
frame that circular face of yours.

that to here.
it dawned upon me that
i did not even know you
when i had written
that letter from wonderland.

every time i see you gazing at me
through your phone screen,
i am transported back
to that magical world
where anything is possible.

the seed you handed to me,
the one from new years?
it bloomed into the most
gorgeous rose i have ever seen.

however, it needs a bit of painting.
do you have any red on you?
