—————————————————————

dampened pavement
and sugar floss sky.
the wispy clouds pulling apart,
as the wind picks chunks
and sends them fluidly in any direction.

so many thoughts and yet none at all.
nothing surfacing, wanting to break through.

reminiscent of childhood nights
trying to peak at stars above,
back to the synthetic grass,
breathing in the biting air.
one alone, in the backyard.

hands stained with blood,
with fluids from the past,
scarred and beaten and bruised.

"hold still," you ordered,
noticing the way the driveway light
lit up my complexion.
taking a snapshot of a night well spent.

i don't know how or why or when,
but suddenly you became someone
that i could recharge myself around.

we crossed paths
on the information superhighway.
i crawled to you as a mass of tangled yarns
and you picked up the knitting needles.

me, inhaling and exhaling the world,
watching the clouds spell patterns in the sky.

you, instead,
following how light fell on my face,
the shadows cast and the shiny spots.

looking into your eyes under the limelight.
somehow,
you always know exactly when to lean in.
somehow,
you know exactly how to tilt your head
to make me weak.

we only kissed three times all night,
feeling those gestures unnecessary
to convey our connection in this moment.

i don't think i've ever wanted
to savor in silence with someone else
before.

exhausted as i've been,
i let sleep catch up to me
when i am with him.

rather than being restless or rowdy
or texting other girls,
he savors in each moment,
pulling hairs out of my face
and caressing me gently.

never have i felt so loved,
even subconsciously,
knowing he is watching over me
as my eyes draw closed.

he cares not where i've been
nor what i have done wrong.

lay me down, as i have found bliss,
a fellow battered soul
who has learned from the past
and swears to love better
than the previous day.
