—————————————————————

i lay my head on your shoulder.
our fingers interlace.
you look out at the city
for your final time,
although you didn't know that part yet.

the angels surround us,
surround you.
i feel you touch my shoulder.

that sullen smile said every word.

the lights shined so vibrantly.
a cold february night.
the streetlamps all bled together.

your marked wrist
stood out prominently.
those marks all bled together.

i was so proud of you.
you wrapped your arms tightly
around my smaller frame.

"stay and wait for me, darling."
"i'd wait a lifetime for you."

i said i'd wait a lifetime for you.
i didn't think
you would actually make me.

i sit atop that mountain now,
staring out from our place.
i feel you touch my shoulder.

i'm waiting. dear god i'm waiting.
