MEREDITH'S POV
The next day arrived quickly and as my eyes opened I realised that I was in fact living a dream. A dream that I'm sure many people have, including me. I rolled over to face the man asleep next to me then I rolled back over to check the clock and see what time it actually was. Thankfully, jetlag hadn't kicked in yet. It was 8:45am and the sun was blaring through the sheer drapes hung in front of the huge doors that lead onto the balcony. The birds' chirps could be heard through the ajar windows, the smell of Italian pastries and coffee could be smelt from the street below us and the soft breeze of wind made the room airy and comfortable. I rolled over again and placed my hand on top of Derek's bare chest, rubbing my thumb up and down. I wanted to let him sleep but I also didn't because I was so excited to start our day and create everlasting memories. I laid on my side and used my arm to prop my head up and rest in in my hand. Derek began to wake up, stretching and as he rested he greeted me with a question and raised eyebrows.
'Where you watching me sleep?'
'You're cute when you sleep.' I laughed back and received a pleasant kiss from him. He yawned and softly laughed and let a small moment of silence settle between us.
'Good morning. Are you ready for today?' He asked me whilst gathering the sheets and placing them over us both. He must have realised the breeze was a slight bit chilly and since we were still both naked, the thin sheets added a little bit more warmth.
'What's happening today?'
'Well I have a surprise for you and then we can do whatever you want for the rest of the day.'
I was curious, like always whenever he left me wondering, but nevertheless I was excited and certain that our day would be perfect. I remained in the same position as I was before he woke up and wandered into his eyes for an amount of time I didn't even know and the only thing that brought my attention away from him was the doorbell ringing.
'Ah shoot.' Derek shouted whilst clambering out of bed and desperately trying to find any trousers laying on the floor that he could quickly throw on and protect his modesty from the outside world. I couldn't help but laugh as he frantically ran around the room naked and I too protected what was only for Derek, by pulling the sheets further up into my chest and neck.
As the door shut and Derek turned around, I noticed he had a look on his face that I couldn't work out why it was there. It wasn't an expression of excitement nor fear. Almost as if he was unsure about rather what was on the tray or what I was going to say to what was on the tray.
'What is it?' I asked, searching for an answer. His facial expressions changed suddenly and that McDreamy smile shone through his eyes again. He walked over to the bed and I peered over to the dark wooden tray and see what was on it.
'Since when did you order food?'
'Last night. I arranged a time for them to deliver it this morning. Croissants, Jam, ironically French Toast, Porridge, Fruit, Coffee and finally Champagne.'
I threw him a concerned, confused yet still very happy look and asked, 'I have two questions, since when have we ever eaten this much in a morning and why do you have champagne at this time in the morning?'
'Well to that, I have two replies. the reason we never eat this much food in the morning is because you're an intern and I'm an attending. We never have time to eat at any time of the day. And we have champagne because we need something to toast with.'
'Toast to what?'
He set the tray down as I sat up against the headboard of the bed and wrapped the white satin sheets around my chest. He climbed in right next to me after he had taken his jeans off again, which was understandable. I wouldn't want to lie on these sheets with denim on either. He used his thumb to trace the outline of my jaw and as he reached my chin, he delighted me with a delicate yet so meaningful kiss. I smiled at him and kissed him back and then we both tucked into our breakfast, me starting with the croissants and him the porridge.
I placed the last piece of strawberry in my mouth and licked my fingers to get off all the excess flavour. Whilst doing this I noticed that Derek was watching me and had this huge smile on his face, that probably would have been very creepy to someone that wasn't very much in love with him and he then leaned over to his bedside table, opening the drawer.
DEREK'S POV
I didn't honestly know when the right time was going to be but what I did know was that I would know when the right time was in the moment. I had ordered our breakfast the night before, giving Meredith plenty of options of food to eat and adding a side of our lifesaver, coffee, along with two glasses of the most recommended champagne, by the staff in the kitchen. I knew that if we ate breakfast in bed and the moment came along, I would be able to grab the ring easily and it would still be unanticipated for Meredith.
I watched the most perfect woman lick off the remaining food from her fingers and look at me with an attentive, devoted smile as she realised I was admiring her. I knew after the night we had, the place we were, the amount of love she was showing, the morning being the most ravishing light of day I had seen for a long time and the fact that the love of my life was sat naked in bed next to me with only white silk sheets covering her breasts, that the right moment had arrived.
