So, I told myself I wouldn't, but then I did. Yep, after a lot of internal screaming and the death of whatever restraint I had left in my, I decided to make yet another TBOB fanfiction. By this point you're probably either intrigued or wondering if I'm insane, or maybe a combination of both. But hear me out, I know I alright have way too many ideas and works in progress going on, but this idea just grabbed me and it's going to be interesting and dark and painful and all of that nitty gritty goodness we all love to read. So, lack of impulse control aside, I really am excited for this.
'What is this?' You may be asking. Good question. Let me fill you in. A little bit ago, my friend and fellow TBOB fangirl and writer, Lucy_Hood asked me to do an exchanging of prompts and writing of oneshots with her. I agreed, and she challenged me to write about Kate and Rafe in a world where the Dire Magnus won the fight for the books. That lead to a 14000 word oneshot called Dancing With The Devil which is located here in this book. My new story, Overture For A New World, is a continuation of that. The first three chapters are composed of the same material as Dancing With The Devil, and the plot continues on from there. You can either read the oneshot here or the first three chapters there or both, just so long as you read them before reading the rest.
This story is one that I'm really excited for. It's going to be darker than a lot of the content I have previously put out for this fandom, and I'm excited to delve into that aspect of things, which interests me greatly. The dynamic between Kate and Rafe as the Dire Magnus will take center stage and it's one I find both fascinating and challenging to work with. The story will also dive into worldbuilding a universe where the Dire Magnus won, and it will feature some of what Michael, Emma, Wilamena, and others are doing to fight back, though that's not the focus of the book, which is Kate. And I have some new original characters to introduce, and I'm really eager for you to meet this wide range of personalities and see how they fit into the book.
